Mah New Dog, Rosie!

May I be the first to say that she came with an AWESOME name. Just like Rosie from the Lord of the Rings!

She's a two year old half English Cocker Spaniel, and half Labrador Retriever. She's got dark red/brown coloring, and her head comes up to about my knee. She ended up being the dog that ours got along best with, because she's submissive, and didn't push things with him. The other dogs were a little too nosy for his tastes.

She's submissive, but she doesn't seem to be fearfully submissive. She just wants to roll over and get her tummy scratched, and although she's been very submissive towards our current dog, she'll look at him, and at us, and she' very curious and seems -very- happy to be here.

When I took her outside, she went potty right away (seems she's housetrained. Thank GOD! ) and then she ran over to me with her tail wagging, wanting a belly rub, and then to play a little.


Now she's snoozing happily.

She seems nervous that someone will take her doggy bed away, though, so she hasn't used it yet. Rosie loves her stuffed tiger, though . She was wrestling with it earlier.

Updates:

Rosie and Lockers are already starting to get comfortable with each other. He come over and sniffed her, and she stayed still for it, so now they're just hanging out on opposite sides of the house, which is great. They wont be a huge bundle of fun-and-energy, obviously, but I am TOTALLY okay with that. I've gotten quite used to docile dogs like my mom's, so I'm more than happy to have another one.


Rosie was still avoiding her bed, so when she woke up from her little nap, I picked her up in my arms and gave her a hug, then put her down on her bed and started scratching her belly. She got up after about five minutes and moved around, then returned right back to her bed and laid down dead-center in the middle of it . Now she's snoring.

She has the most adorable little snore. It sounds like a muffled, male radio announcer.

Naturally, I'm sure she'll deny that she snores as soon as I tell her she does . All women do.

Lordy. I've taken about 1,000 photos of her looking at the camera, but had to delete the majority of them for being too blurry. She moves her head right as I click, or if she doesn't move, then my hand twitches or -something-. They're all a bit blurry... so I'm still trying to get a decent one .


I took a six and a half hour nap today, because I've only gotten four and a half hours of sleep the past two nights. I finally realized I was being paranoid, so we did end up leaving Rosie alone with Lockers for about an hour today while we all ran out to have lunch.

Looks like she did great! Both dogs ran to greet us at the door when we got back, and nothing was chewed on or messed with as far as we can tell.

So that was very comforting, and I went upstairs to take an hour and a half nap. I meant to get up to go and sing with the evening choir that I do every Sunday, but.... ummm... yeah, that didn't work out so much. Like I said, it ended up being six and a half hours... so I'm not sure how much sleep I'll get tonight, but I'll at least be decently rested for work tomorrow!

And the Demon Dog is awoken .

This morning, in the space between when my parents left for work, and I managed to wake up (about 1 hour) Rosie chewed up a book and a puzzle that my parents brought back from France when they went on vacation, and when I got down stairs she was working her way through a pen... I have no idea where she got the pen from. Must've been under the couch or something.


Sooooooooooooo I called my mom, and she was okay with it. I put a bunch of stuff in our walk-in pantry, so things like my Grandpa's carvings, etc.


Looks like she's got a LOT more puppy in her than I thought! When I got downstairs, the first thing she did was jump up to her feet and go flying around the room at a million miles an hour, then repeatedly run up to me wanting attention.

I took her for a walk, but even a mile and a half (and I walk at a very fast clip) barely tired her out. Then I played with her and had her running back and forth across the house chasing after her toy for about 15 minutes. Still wasn't tired out.

She did finally settle down, but LORDY. I'm obviously going to have to take her on two walks a day, plus spending a lot of time playing with her. She's a little more than I bargained for! But oh well... I love her to bits already, and no way I'm not going to take care of her just because she's a little difficult.

... I'm going to have to get back in shape... *SOB* I DON'T WANNA EXERCISE!!!!!!!!!

You're right, of course. I now have a reason to run, and running with her keeps my mind off of me, so I'm actually doing a lot better. I used to have trouble with any running, because I would start wheezing and my chest would get tight after only jogging for a brief period. So yay!

I'm probably going to start lifting weights again, too. *sigh* I mean... why not? I'm exercising ANYWAYS, apparently. *glares at Rosie*

She slept downstairs all by herself last night... and didn't chew stuff up! Rosie seems very, very afraid of the stairs, and while I carried her up and down for a few nights, she seemed like she would rather be down in the living room. She's not big on being carried, either.

I am a little annoyed with her, though. She woke me up at 5:45 this morning barking at the little red 'power' button on the stereo. Argh. Doesn't she realize this is the Summer? I have TWO WEEKS of vacation from school, and one from work. I WOULD LIKE TO SLEEP IN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

Also she's now allowed onto the couch, so long as she stays on her blanket. It happened because the other day, I was laying down on the couch, and she hopped up after me, as my mom walked past. I grabbed her mid-jump and hauled about 70% of her onto my lap.

Mother scowled.

"Look!" I said, brightly, "She's on my lap! That's okay, right?"

Mother softened her expression.

And it was decided that it would be, after all, alright.

*snerk* A dog afraid of steps? That's new...I wonder why? Well, at least that settles the problem of her chewing/jumping on/and generally going/ on anything on the upper levels of the house.
