The Darkness.

Has anyone heard this wicked new band- they sound a bit like Queen meets Bon Jovi mixed with a bit of Boston and full of Jimi Hendrix riffs- they're great!!! Anyone else got their album "permission to land" yet?

The Darkness rule! It's cool to see a great rock band gain mainstream success. I'd say they sound like Queen mixed with AC/DC.

They get a bit of a snobbery from British critics who think if a band doesn't sound like the mundane Radiohead and the rest of those indie twanger people they must suck.

Permission to Land is a mighty fine album.

Now you mention it I can hear a bit of the old AC/DC in their music.
Being a Brit myself its nice to have a proper band around- I'm bored of feeling suicidal everytime I switch on the radio because some indie band is deciding to depress us all again. And they wonder why kids are going off the wall these days- take a listen to the rubbish they hear on the radio?!!!!!

My fave is deffinately "i believe in a thing called love" but you have to have it on really loud! It's such a great track!

Tenuous claim to fame

My wife was in the bass player's class at school. I see he's dropped the double-barrelled name (Francis Poullain-Paterson doesn't sound like much of a hellraiser); his nickname was Fanny Pee-Pee. Good bloke, apparently.

Great to see proper rock back in the mainstream. Good luck to them.

*falls off chair*

Not exactly good grooming for the next "Prince of Darkness"

Hmm....The Darkness. Cliched. Stereotypical. Totally unoriginal. Their music contains every bleedin' guitar riff ever transcribed.

Everything good chart music should be

It's good to see guys who can actually play music having fun with their music.........rock music deffo needed a band with that "Freddie Mercury" sense of adventure

The Darkness rock!!!
They put the fun back into music. Not many people would have the guts to wear a catsuit!!! I love it!!

And to any Justin fans who have seen the Ikea 'slomping' advert (maybe the UK only), it was Justin who wrote and sang the lyrics.

They remind me of Spinal Tap. Not that that's a bad thing.

I bought the cd for my husband for Christmas based on what was said here. The "Queen meets ACDC" is what did it -- we're fans of both of those bands. Unfortunately, neither of us agree with that assessment. I think he's going to trade it in for something else. (That'll teach me to buy music sound unheard based on mb thread reviews! )
