Bands We Love

Thought this would be a good idea (and couldn't find an old thread with the idea)... just give a name, short description, and a website or two to check them out...

The Aquabats - superhuman ska band, performing their hits "Super Rad" and "The Cat with Two Heads" while battling their many arch-nemeses in their brightly colored rashguards and anti-negativity helmets

Official Site

Audio downloads - The descriptions are fun to read. I recommend giving "Mucho Gusto" at least one listen

They Might Be Giants - quirky duo from New York, dubbing themselves the "twin quasars of rock" and "Brooklyn's ambassadors of love." Familiar titles: Istanbul (Not Constantinople), Birdhouse in Your Soul

Official Site - flash intensive site... click the ear-looking thing for song names and then click the accordian to hear the song

Dial-A-Song! - click the target

Hmm. Where to start??

Beatles
Brit Invasion at it's finest. Sgt Peppers and Abbey Road without are both without a doubt to be considered The top albums ever.

Pink Floyd
Only just got into these guys recently. The Wall is a favourite.

The Doors
Jim Morrison. The Oliver Stone movie was pretty good as well.
Official site.

David Bowie
Not really a band, but.... Check out Low, Ziggy Stardust, and Heathens. Outside, Diamond Dogs, and Hunky Dory are all really good as well.
Official Site.

Led Zeppelin
Again, I only got into these guys recently. IV and Physical Graffiti stand out.
I pull info off this site.

Ian Dury and the Blockheads
My favourite song being, Wake up and make love to me from the album New Boots and Panties.
Official Site.

The Firm
.... Star Trekkin'!!!

Jefferson Airplane
Some wonderfully corny songs, such as We Built This City.

Velvet Underground
Lou Reed and John Cale.

Kraftwerk
Crazy Germans, and electronica from the 70s. What more can I say? Trans-Europe Express and Autobahn are well worth checking out.

There has been a persistent rumour that they are in the studios working on a new album... this has been going on since the 80s!

Their official site doesn't say much, but it expresses what they stand for rather succinctly....
Official Site.

Pixies
Awesome band from the 80s. I'm *just* getting into their stuff now.

Ramones
Angry punk. I Wanna Be Sedated is one of my favourite Ramones' songs.

The Who
Who's Next album is simply brilliant. I'll have to track down some more of their stuff.

I agree with BoP mostly. I also like Audiovent, Our Lady Peace, Incubus, Puddle of Mudd, P.O.D., Eric Clapton, Stevey Ray Vaughan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many others.

Grandaddy
A relatively new band, formed in the late 90s I believe (pretty modern for me!), it kind of has a folky/psychedelic sound. Really hard to describe. The Sophtware Slump is the album that brought them to public attention. One of the members is an ex-skateboarding champ.

BoP - did Grandaddy have a song called something like The Crystal Lake? I like that, really odd and interesting.

Currently I'd go for Garbage (even with Shirley's horrible new platinum blonde look).

In their time Blur have done some fantastic stuff. I like Muse too.

Also like a lot of Roger Waters' era Pink Floyd, but the band I really wish I had seen live is Thin Lizzy. Damn, I WISH I'd been Phil Lynott (without the dying young bit, obviously).

The Beatles Heh, I guess you knew I would say that. BoP: I think that Revolver is thier best album; I love Sgt Pepper, Abbey Road and The White Album as well. Heck I love them all! I heard that Paul is going to release a new Beatles song. Could be interesting...... Here is the Official Site Last time I checked it was still a promotion for 1. Hopefully a better official site will be along soon.

I've always liked the Beatles, but I guess I'm not a wild about them as everyone else. They were very good musicians, but not much else. And personally I think Paul has lost his "edge" now-a-days.

Ian Brown, Beth Orton, '80s poodle rock, Rush, P J Harvey, Garbage. There seem to be a lot of bands that can knock out a couple of decent tracks then record an album of utter crap; EZ Rollers, Kosheen (don't kill me, I havne't got hold of it yet), Pepe Deluxe. Still like a bit of Dylan, be interesting to see what happens to the White Stripes. And Kylie has to cop it for churning out a lot of rubbish, but Light Years was pretty good.

Paul lost his edge in 1970. Yeah, The Beatles only wrote the best songs ever, could play instuments, could act, were good looking, changed popular music forever and had a wide range of interests and views. No, I am NOT obsessed with them.
