Cake or Death: The Comedy of Eddie Izzard

Is anyone else a fan? I've only seen Dressed to Kill, but I plan on seeing more.

I...I poked a badger with a spoon.

Sounds interesting, what is it? Is it a bit Monthy Pyton-ish?

I went to see him live last year. This guy is VERY funny in an extremely random cross-dressing kinda way.

Official site: http://www.eddieizzard.com/home.izz

I believe there are some soundbites that you can download to listen to. I highly recommend that you do, or I'll come over give the super-patented BoP wedgie. You have been warned.

I've heard that some of his latest shows haven't been his greatest, but that's probably because he's recovering from the flu and some such.

Every now and then I'll get one of his sketches from D2K and be giggling all day. I can't really describe it to my friends who haven't seen him, because I'm not a very good imitator (and of course, the omitting of some words just...doesn't work...). I did convince one of my friends that a transvestite British comedian isn't scary though, and she loves him now.

Excuse me...EXECUTIVE transvestite.

Which videos did you get? Dressed to Kill is the easiest one to find, I guess...

One was called Glorious and the other was something like (don't have it with me) Circle. I haven't watched them both all the way through yet but they seem to be up to the usual surreal standard...

I've never seen him live; his shows here always sell out in minutes. I wish he'd do more tours. In fact, I wish he'd come round my house and just say stuff for our general entertainment.

One of my mates saw him in London once. He was climbing the stairs to a client's office and could hear stiletto heels coming down towards him. As he climbed, the heels got louder and louder. Suddenly Eddie Izzard appeared and swept past. He said a cheery "hello" to my mate, whose jaw had hit the floor by that stage.

Your cat is drilling for oil as you read this.

I've only seen, what, half of Dressed to Kill, but I really liked it, and want to see more. Lots more. Hee.

What was that about transvestite squirrels?

Oh man. I love the squirrel part...bahaha. How far did you get? Like, what was the last sketch you remember?

I quite liked the encore on Dressed to Kill. He talks about how he learned French, and some of the useless things you need to learn in beginnig language classes (the cat is on the chair, the mouse is under the table, the monkey is on the branch...haha...)

Teacher's head on monkey is. (Language classes are so much fun, especially when it's Japanese. . .anyway, that's off topic. . .)

Anyway, I dont' really remember, I was half asleep. . .

I rather like this god of chaos...
And that Venn and his diagrams... he would have been one annoying kid!

So we're going to watch Eddie Izzard at my birthday party on Saturday. I'm excited.

Why am I having a birthday party? I'm not sure. Hmm. Perhaps as an excuse to watch Eddie Izzard.

I like the sound of that. . .

Who was Venn with his diagrams? Was he the most boring child EVER? Mahaha.

Watched Eddie's Circle DVD on my recent trip, and had almost everyone quoting it on the way home. Mostly the banana bit, though.

Heehee! And the stoned olympics! And the British olympics... excuse me... pardon, I may just pass...

I saw a little excert of Sexie... I don't see why we should keep hunters and gatherers as 1 job... I see myself as a hunter, not much of a gatherer... I see it like a caddie and a golfer... 'Gazelle... hmm, what do you think I should use? Yes, a three spear!'
And when I get back it's like, 'hello, I'm done'
'Where's the meat?'
'The meat?'
'You were hunting?'
'I'm just... er... uh... I'm just hunter... nah, we just leave it there'

Is he truely spontaneous or is it a bit scripted?

He probably has running topics, from what I've seen anyway - but the way he works, it really does seems spontaneous, because sometimes he goes off on these really wild tangents, and then has to pull himself back inline. Seeing him live is the best thing - I hope he comes back out to NZ sometime! Hysterically funny!

I was watching his commentary on Circle and the French tour Dress to Circle, and he commented on how he has a basic skeleton of ideas, but likes to be a bit spontaneous, because it keeps the material from getting old for him, and thus not as entertaining or scripted sounding.

Yes, I saw his subtitled French gig, I thought that was very funny, and very impressive. 'Je suis un catastrophe!' Actually it kinda reminded me of Jeff Buckley, he spoke a little French during his gig, but was kinda overwhelmed by his populaity, it's quite funny in a sweet way. Live at the Olympia, not a must have, but quite good.
