Cool part of the Warg scene...

The warg scene during the trip to Helms Deep is a touchy subject, I know. But I have to say that at the beginning, when Legolas is standing on that ridgetop picking off orcs and wargs with his bow - that is just awesome! The sound of the arrows zinging of his bow is crazy wicked. I know it is not a realistic sound, but man, does it work in the movies.

Definitely one of my favorite moments in the whole movie. I even like his super move to get on the back of the horse.

What think you guys???

Yep! Damn awesome! The slo-mo stuff was great. The swing-onto-the-back-of-the-horse move was a tab unrealistic, but looked REALLY cool.

I loved the Legolas-horse move. It showed the power of the Elves. The horse was not scared at all. Who says it cannot happen?

But it didnt make any sense physically. It looked like he swung one way then went back against his arm the other way. It looked wrong to me. Would have been cool if he just sort of swung underneath the horse and up and over.

I loved that horse-mounting trick, even if it smelled of CGI.

I loved it!
Because it was in slow motion, the first time i saw it and he went to do it i thought he was going to get trampled and go under the horse and then i realised what he was doing and i was like "Wow!" (I'm a bit slow at noticing some things lol!)

I think the move looks right. The way I see it, he graps a hold, swings one way and then sort of bounces/springs from one side of the horses chest from its momentum, which gives him the boost to swing up the other way and mount it. Does that make sense? I think I just confused myself

*laugh* we will definitely have to play with the slowmo button when the DVD comes out on this one.

That was 2,000 years of perfecting the skill, of course!

Ok. So I didn't actually like that move at all. Positively stunk of CGI. But it was still pretty cool.

That jump - well, it's cool, but it annoys me that I don't think it's physically possible. It just looks too unrealistic for me to like it.
But in general, the warg scene was good. Except for what they did to poor Gimli. And knocking Aragorn over the cliff - but that did let us see wet Viggo...:P

I want to see Gimli do some great kick-orc fighting scenes. They make the others look so powerful and Gimli is just the kooky dwarf. The dwarves did not send him on the journey for nothing!

Sorry, worked up.

Wasn't it Elrond who sent him?

I have no problem with that. A lot of Elven skills don't make sense physically. Like walking on top of the snow without leaving footprints, and walking on rope across a stream.

Yes but why make it look weird on purpose? Walking on snow is cool and makes sense visually. Doing some sort of weird double back pirouette thing that would require your arm to have no bones was just confusing. They could have easily come up with a move that actually made sense physically. But hey it wasnt as bad as the snow boarding scene while shooting arrows at Helms Deep.

Well, it looked weird to me because of the CGI, sort of discontinuous. But I think it's cool that Legolas gets to show off his skills like that. Never mind the details It also happens so fast in the movie, it's difficult to notice any details. I agree, the DVD slow-motion will tell us his actual movements.

Visually, Legolas' move to join Gimli on horseback was incredible. It succeeded in catching the audience by surprise (one of its chief purposes) and it looked great.

For those who argue that it wasn't physically possible, I would agree with you if we were talking about a Rider of the Mark or a Gondorian soldier. But I think it's ridiculous to say that it was not possible for an elf.

I thought it looked like he couldn't decide which way to get on the horse, like he didn't know what he was doing. Plus, it did look like "dyno-rama" from the old "Jason and the Argonauts" movie. I like "elvish tricks", like the walking on the snow, but the swoosh, swoosh horse thing wasn't it!
