Why D'you all want to be Elves?

I dont get it! I wouldnt want to be an Elf.
Imagine having to spend 978000 years as the same person?
Id rather be a Man, where i can be 5000 diffrent people in 1000000 years.. Remember, Men go to the halls of Mandos after death to recieve a new body! Elves do, but only once about 5000 years!

I dont get why you all want to be Elves!?!?

Eh? It is not known what happens to the spirits of men once they pass into Mandos. As far as I know, only Beren has made it back, and that was a special 'pact' with Mandos; conditions applied.

I dont want to be an elf, i just think the writing is real pretty and the language sounds beautiful and the reason i want to learn to speak it is that i write poetry and i want to hear what it sounds like in elvish, maybe even read it at the Poet's Loft thats near by

I am an Elf, and every Elf longs to be free of the circles of the world, or in other words, "die". Even Elves slain in battle are just reborn and eventually remember who they are.

You should be wanting to be Elves cuz you love the trees, the forest, and the flowers..

Take a look at it this way: Imagine, living to the worlds end.
There would be no point in doing anything. There would be nuttin to do but sleep an eat. Thats it. Yea, you could practise crafts, but what about when youve mastered all of them? eh? See? theres no time limit, no finish line. It would be immensly boring.
No point in doing anything you can do it later.

Please tell me why you really want to be Elves..

I would love the fact of living in the forests! I love the language and writing! I'm not so keen on the immortality part though! I don't think that i would like to live for thousands of years! a couple of hundred would be max for me!

Several millenia with the same elven "wife".........with their elven keen sight and exceptional hearing........bugger that! Besides elven women are far too skinny

Meruvior and lembas would get stuck in the throat eventually..........and I can only stand so much grieving and bemoaning about the state of the world, be like sitting in a forest full of goths

Think I'll stick with being human. Free to make your own destiny and ya still get to come back for the final song at the end of the world

I'd wanna be a Dwarrow, they rock(pun intended). They live several hundred years, get to stay in the Halls of Mandos and get to help that nifty Aulë in rebuilding Arda after the Dogor Dagorad(sp?)

The only reason I say I'm an Elf is because it's the race that I believe I would fit in the best in.
Nu i aldar na orenya.
Anyways, I could never be a hobbit (I don't like food or ale) or a dwarf (Hate caves) and I've had it up to here with being sick and clumsy.

I picked myself to be a elf because I am not at all like a hobbit, and I am not at all like a man or dwarf. I am a elf because I love all living things. I am a elf because they are always willing to do good. I am a elf because I like the language and the writing. I am a elf because the elves love peace and quiet. I am a elf because most elves are kind and generous. I am a elf because the elves are skilled in riding and the bow, and I love both these arts. I am a elf because.................. (....) I want to be an elf not for immortality itself, but because of the opportunity immortality could give you to really know both the natural world and other people. After watching and living with them for thousands of years, you understand life better and can act more wisely. Think how much beauty you can see in a millenium!
