galladriel vs. arwen

sory, but i cant spell, but try to read this anyways. My question is, do you think that Galadriel or Arwen deseved to get more credit? And allso do you think that Galadriel should have gotten more credit? My last question is, did Arwen get to MUCH credit?

I'll start
Galadriel did more, and deserved to get more credit then Arwen. Arwen only had a love story, and some how rode to save Frodo on the horse, and she wasn't even suppost to do that acording to Tolkien!
Galadriel in my appinion the first two times I saw the movie (before I read any of the books) I thought that she was evil! then, they have one billion pictures of Arwen, and not Galadriel!
My last question can be ansewd with my first anser!

I know that this only comes to mind b/c they are the onley two mane charicter girls/ladys in the movie! But, that's why the question came to my mind!

aside from the LOTR

Galadriel who is Arwen's grandma is probably the greatest female save luthien ever to live

I agree with Afro-elf. Samwiseluvr, you should read the Silmarillion for more information about Galadriel. But yes, Galadriel is much more important than Arwen.

Uh oh, not allowed to talk about the movie here.

Firstly I don't think that Arwen got much credit at all.

I think Galadriel is 'better' because she was in Valinor when the trees were there and she knew Feanor for heavens sake! The greatest female ever was probably Luthien, you can't really have a higher lieage than her.

I suspect they had more pictures of Arwen is because people like looking at her more.

Galadriel's more important because in the Third Age, she was "the greatest of elven women" or something like that. Also, she was in the book more than Arwen.

Why are there so many pictures of Arwen? Some people think Liv Tyler's pretty. It might be there to try to help attract some male viewers that ordinarily wouldn't see something like LotR. Other than that, I don't know.

I think Galadriel deserves a better part than Arwen-because she is better than Arwen.
I also don't like the movie Galadriel, I mean, I though Cate Blanchet did a good job and all, but they just made Galad. too SCARY! In the book she was seen as a strong ally, kind an hospitable, and actually wiser than her husband, Celeborn.

Don't feel too bad, it took me more than 20 years to get around to reading the Silmarillion. I couldn't get into it either. I finally read it this year(I made myself do it, like a school assignment.) but still prefer the LotR, tho true the Silmarillion is full of important historical info.

Galadriel portrays the enchantress (like the Blue Fairy, or Glinda in Oz) while Arwen is the lovely princess heroine; there's no conflict. I'm still miffed that she took over Frodo's job of rescuing himself at the Ford; but they had to give the poor girl something useful to do or we'd all be calling PJ sexist; "she gets to marry Aragorn but she didn't do anything to deserve him but look ornamental!"

I think they are both equally important , in both the book and the movie.

I think Arwen often gets over looked for importance because she is not around all that much but she is one of the driving forces behind everything that Aragorn does. She is his emotional support, his reason. If she wasn't there Aragorn wouldn't be the man that he was, so even indirectly, here mere presesnce is important.

And just for the record I loved Liv Tyler's Arwen. I thought she rocked!

I have always thought of Galadriel as being the pre-eminent elf in middle earth - she comes from probably the top family and has been there ,done it and got the t shirt so to speak.
I can understand afro's point about Luthien, but i do lean towards Lady G, maybe its the longevity thing - mind you if were talking movie here, liv is a babe so she wins !

Liv is NOT a babe - she looks like a hippo.

I'm gonna go with Galadriel. This whole "Aragorn couldn't have done it without Arwen" nonsense just isn't washing with me. Her character was an afterthought, and it feels that way. Whereas Galadriel could have almost given Feanor a run for his money.

hey afro elf, i think that you have some compitition for the elven lord of typing errors.

the three females that i like from LOTR
Luthien Tinuviel
(shes not actually a character, but she is mentioned in FotR)
Galadriel
Eowyn

arwen i don't like, not just because she is plyed by liv, (eep, im actually saying this) i agree with BoP, shes an after thought, i mean, she does some needle point and sends it fed ex with her brothers to her boyfriend.
LotR isn't a love story, i don't think she fits.. what great and powerful thing can she do?

in other words, "what's her trick??"

edit: only the 'higher powers' can do that samwiselvr.
i posted my first post in a tottally different forum, its all good..
(actually i still do that... )

hippo's can be attractive in a watery muddy sort of way! I do agree nthat lady G could be extremely ' bad ' if pushed. I think there is a bit more to Arwen than needle point and a comforting bossom - she does annoy the feminine side of the moot doesnt she ! the power of love ( as Huey used to say ) is a curious thing,
Aragorn is no different from your average hormone driven male, love could have been a part of the thing that made hi want to claim the throne, after all , no throne no babe , and that was straight from Elrond himself.

Arwen Undomiel

I am fine with Arwen! A hippo! I think she's a lovely looking young woman, a tall woman who looks like she eats, which is good! I'm not into the Hollywood look of reproductive parts hanging off a skeleton.
Added....Everyone in ME doesn't have to have super powers to be impressive. The things Arwen contributed to Aragorn's sense of purpose and dedication could have been the most compelling reasons for him to pursue his difficult goals. I've noticed that when most guys meet "The Woman", they will usually do whatever it takes to reassure her that their dream of a life together can happen. I agree with Viggosbeard. Arwen may not be as mythologicaly exciting as Galadriel, but that's no reason to belittle her. The power of love is perhaps stronger (especially as they enter the age of men). Everyone in ME can't turn purple and green and be scary! (just kidding of course, Galadriel's awesome!).

Galadriel. Galadriel all the way.

(And no, this is not just because I look like her. Really. I'm serious. )
