Grinch

Saw the Grinch this weekend, get the full review <a href=http://batcave.net/moviereviews/>here</a>.

Personally, I found way to many disturbing similarities between Carrey's version of the Grinch and Oscar the Grouch for my tastes.

I saw it. Review coming.

To me the amount of marketing and merchandising they are doing for this movie goes against (or with....I'm not sure which) everything Suesses' story was about.

Yes, you're certainly right about the hypocrisy there... commercializing something that denounced overcommercialism...

I personally hated it. It was terrible, we almost left the theater. If they had just stuck to the original story, it could've been better.

Well in their defense, the original story was WAY to short to use as a feature film, you'd have to have a LOT of filler to stretch it into an hour and a half. I think that is why it departed so much from the original.

BTW... i don't understand all these complaints from some parents about how the film is to scary for children... I didn't see much that was really all that scary to it.

Heck, when I was a little kid (little, mind you. ) the original Grinch creeped me out. But then again, it has Boris Karloff.

Glad to know someone else had problems with this movie too cause all I hear about it how wonderful it is. I do not like it at all. Dr. Suess has always been a favorite of mine since I was a child. Hollywood's vision of the Grinch is truly disturbing. And commercialism? I don't remember the last time I saw such movie marketing. They're putting the Grinch on soap for goodness sakes!

Oh yeah and for some reason the Grinch never creeped me out. I thought he was cute! :lol:

Personally, I agree with "Film". The show did complete justice to the books. Colors, architechtural sites, language etc. Of course it had to be a bit longer but although I am not a JC fan; it seems he was made to be The Grinch. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

I don't mean to sound like I loved it or anything, it really wasn't the best... but in all truth, they captured the Grinch fairly well, especially visually... there just wasn't much there to capture to begin with. Grinch is BAD movie material despite being an excellent children's story.

Went with a friend and her kids and finally got out to see this. I liked it a lot. Although it wasn`t out and out riotous like I thought it would be, it had some hysterical moments such as The Grinch racing around in the small car and the ride down from Mount Crumpett. The film did convey two important messages: 1) Chrstmas is NOT just about getting gifts and give me, give me, give me... 2) Don`t judge someone by their appearance or first impressions. But let`s not analyze it. Go see it for what it is - a fictitious, fun tale with some awesome colorful sets and some cool gadgets, too. Worth a couple good laughs.

I liked the cartoon!

A SMALL REVIEW

I think that this might just be the worst movie I've ever seen.
Perhaps Jim Carrey is better suited to movies like Ace Ventura, which are mainly for the laughs and not really for any "learning" value. As it was, Carrey's "additions" to the original script did not help; what sentimental and/or serious moments there were in the film were drowned out a few seconds later by some un-funny joke.
The whole "Grinch's background" story was very stupid. Why? Well, first of all, none of the "Whos", especially the kids, should have been as nasty as they were in the movie. They acted exactly like the kids in this world, and that would never have happened if their parents were as nice as it showed them to be in the movie.
Second, isn't it strange that while they made that whole fuss about the "beard", the "beard" wasn't even present?
And I just couldn't stand the little girl Cindy Lou. In Dr. Seuss's book she was two years old, so she shouldn't have been there at all. And BTW; if you're going to force a 6-year old to sing a song, make sure that that 6-year-old can sing without cracking every single note! I tried not to notice it, I really did, but I could hardly recognize it as the same song when that song was sung again by a professional singer during the credits.
That brings me to the next point: You know that scene where Cindy comes down when the Grinch is getting the tree? Well, don't you think she'd recognise him if he actually thrust his face through the tree especially since she'd seen him before quiet a few times? Instead, she just blindly pretended he was Santa.
Maybe it's a remnant of the rough script before they decided to make Cindy a main character, maybe it's something else, but whatever it is, it doesn't look right when you see it.
To sum all that up, I thought that both the "new Cindy" and the "Grinch's background" are an insult to Dr. Seuss's original book.
I gave this movie 2 stars instead of 1 because it had some very dazzling costumes, sets and special effects. However, those 3 things do not make a good movie if not combined with good acting and a good story.
I was tempted to walk out of the theater about half-way into the movie, which is pretty rare for me.
Perhaps little kids will find the humour funny, but I found it silly and dry.
