Scenes You Look Forward to Seeing

I've just been reading... and I think the rescue of the Dwarves + Gandalf & Bilbo from the burning treetops by the great eages could be very cool to see!

I want to see the first scene. I know! Cheesy! But to me that is one of the things I remember so vividly from the book and the animated movie, when all of the dwarves are showing up after the conversation with Gandalf and poor Mr. Bilbo is just running around trying to find things to feed them with and always having to invite more in .

I want to see the Elves! I'm thinking they'll look nothing like they did in the animated movie
I'm also curious to see how much out of character they'll seem, compared to Peter Jackson's renditions.

It will also be fun to compare the scene where Bilbo finds the ring, to the same scene in the first LotR movie.

Also looking forward to seeing Bilbo sneaking around in Smaug's lair... and to seeing Smaug himself.

Beorn's always been a great favourite of mine. They better not make him only a grumpy guy.

Another scene I'd like to see is Bilbo talking with Smaug while trying to disguise his nature and purpose in riddles.

And one thing I'm pretty sure will be excluded, but which I would have liked to see: Bilbo in the treetops in Mirkwood, seeing the black butterflies.

Second!

I sure hope they show the Battle of the Five Armies, rather then do what the book did.

I'm a second vote for the opening scene at Bilbo's home. I strongly suspect that they will stray from the book early and often.

well, reckon there's two really good calls here -

the opening scenes with bilbo smoking his pipe and Gandalf arriving / the party ... and esp when night falls and the dwarvish music starts...and ol Respectable Bilbo first gets a a taste for adventure stirring in his soul!

and yes, 'out of the frying pan into the fire' with the wargs and the eagles etc...

i guess in some ways the question is this however:

are we being asked what we'd like to see cinematography wise ref what we may imagine we'll get?

or..what scene..if it could be done perfectly... (unlikely i guess) .... but if it couldn't... that we'd like to see realised..

To this, off the top of my head.... if it could be realised well ..then i guess a well done 'the death of smaug'

as to a scene to be magically perfectly done...

The arrival at Beorn's ..and subsequent tales, journeys and landscapes of this chapter...

Sadly, theyv will never get close to what is in my imagination on this part... but i wish 'em well trying , regardless!

I think it will be interesting to see the goblins...the movie did such a good job depicting the Orcs, so I bet these will be pretty disgusting too

Another questionable creature is Smaug...will we have an Eragon type of dragon? I hope not...

I wouldn't mind a Dragonheart type of dragon, only you know, golden and evil.

The more I think/read about this, the more worried i get .

Will they miss the fact that the hobbit is essentially a children's book- that admittedly grows toward the end- or will they be pushed to compete with the LoTR movies as spectacle?

For me the entire Hobbit-movie-franchise hinges on Del Toro's ability to create the most spectacularly cool conversation in all of Tolkien's books... Bilbo meets Smaug.

The dark, but royal kingdom-gone-lair, the little hobbit stealing away silently in front of the half-asleep Smaug, who's eye glitters with malice and curiousity, on top of that enormous heap of gold, mithril and jewelry.

It has to be cool, but also classic and intelligent

I think that we can confidently say that the book is a genuine goldmine for 'material' fom which the film could be made to really come alive, to what extent this actually happens is all dependant on how much Jackson meddle's with the Tolkiens work.

Leave things unaltered = Perfect
Starts changing things again = Garbage

The dwarves in the trees was my first thought as well!

After that, a true battle of five armies would be pretty cool.

I'm looking forward to Bilbo's conversation with Smaug. Such a great scene in the book I hope the film does it justice.

I am very much looking forward to seeing Beorn. I just recently realized how much Rebeus Hagrid from the Harry Potter series reminds me of Beorn.

Well, I *LOVE* this thread! Me, I'm looking forward to all the awesome JRRT fanatics of the Entmoot, comme moi, coming out of the woodwork after a decade, give-or-take, to talk Tolkien again. This is frickken AWEsome!

Anyway. I'm looking forward, mostly, to Smaug & Bilbo's conversation. I heard Benedict Cumberbatch is vocally & characteristically great for being Smaug: We shall see. I already love Martin Freeman as a young Bilbo.
