Re: OMG!

Sadly I think there's no chance of winning. This is the first step towards the American government taking over the net. Before it's illegal let me take this time to say: Screw the feds!

Re: OMG!

Tater, dont spoil the party. We got Napster back for the time being, which is plenty to celebrate about. Sure, the service isnt going to last much longer, so lets party while we can. Can we allow underage drinking for this occasion?

Re: OMG!

Shanamir, you're from Quebec right? Here in Alberta it's 18 as well, but it varies between provinces. For example, in Ontario it's either 19 or 21, can't remember which.

Re: OMG!

For Ontario it is 21.
That's why ontarians come to Quebec during their spring break and they usually don't just break the spring...

Re: OMG!

Um, Darth.

The Internet USED to be the exclusive domain of the American government. They gave it up. There is no intention by the government to take it back.

And the Napster case is only one of many dealing with copyright issues (and it was brought against Napster by the largest and most powerful corporations in the American music industry, not the American government).

If you want to thumb your nose at anyone, you'll need to thumb it at those of us copyright holders who want to protect our rights and are looking to the large corporations to keep the rest of the people in line.

The American government is mostly sitting on the sidelines on this issue.

Re: OMG!

Very clever, Michael.

I don't care about this one... FTPs are where the real action's at.

Re: OMG!

But still with napster you can have access to more than 200 000 songs! Give me an FTP that has that much and there I'll go!

Re: OMG!

I had an account on a 280 gig one (with no duplicates, so it's about the same as 200000 w/dupes), but the server's down for maintenance.

Just so this doesn't turn into a pissing match...

Napster does have its uses. It's fairly simple to use, and if you need a song FAST, it's good.

But as far as full albums or obscure stuff goes...

Re: OMG!

Actually, I find Napster great for full albums - but only for the more mainstream, popular stuff.

Obscure stuff? Not a chance in hell.

Re: OMG!

MM, You're not looking at the big picture. You must know how crooked our government is, they spend all their time finding ways around their own laws.

Re: OMG!

It's not really fair the way the Napster cases are turning out. Most of the people who are making the decisions think don't really know what they're making decisions about. They don't know what "sharing files" really means, what an mp3 is, and why people don't like it. There should be a new wave of young, hip, "in" people in the courts to make decisions on all of this technology.

Re: OMG!

But that's a point thrawn raises... Sometimes the judges and deputees don't really know what they're dealing with.

Re: OMG!

In my opinion, Napster should have been shut down long ago. To me, what they are doing is clearly immoral. It is theft, actually.

By the way, hello. This is my first post here.
