An Expression of Anger

Hey everybody, only a couple of people have read this one (which I guess is true of all my poems), so I thought I'd share with everybody. Let me know what you think, like/don't like, think I can improve.

I don't have a title for it, but it is really just an expression of how I felt at the time, which was angry. So here it is:

I shall be lit with fire
And I shall burn so brightly
That they will turn away
From my face in fear,
In awe,
In wonder,
At the pulsing power
Of my human heart
That screams and crackles
In red, orange, yellow, green, blue
Hot blue flame.
Oh how it shall scream
The tongues of saints and sinners
In one tone of raw truth:
That though all worlds collide
And die down in shame,
I shall be recalled,
I shall be recalled,
By survivors,
Or new life,
As the man who burned so brightly.
Recall me, you damned fools!
Recall me!

_________

I'm not really sure anymore about that line naming all the colors of the flame. Do you think I should take it out, and just leave "hot blue flame"?

Ñólendil . . . you actually felt this?

Well, yeah Lief, I actually felt this I don't literally want to stand on a hill and be lit with fire, but I was trying to express my anger. Anger is, after all, rather irrational. I just sort of took the perspective of, "if you could actually see my anger, what would it look like? If I just put this feeling into words, what would it say?"

The result, I hope, is a poem about, yes, anger, but also bitterness and pride. I guess I felt kicked around, and so naturally desired a place above all others, and because I felt kicked I desired to kick back, hence a face that inspires fear, awe, and wonder. Things weren't going my way, so I wanted everything to go my way, I wanted to impress, to shock, and stand out as the utmost importance in a new world after universal death and destruction. The man who burned so brightly. I think that's honest, uncensored anger right there. At least for me.

But this is how I felt, not how I thought on any intellectual level.

Ungoliant, what was really different about it? Not to challenge that opinion at all, but just to know where you're coming from. What struck you as very different?

I think it's great! It flows very well, with good rhthym. I think I know the feeling also! The word "recalled"..is that another way of saying I shall be remembered? I wasn't quite clear on that particular word.

Lizra, thanks. And yeah, "recalled" is synonymous with "remembered". Like when you say "I don't recall that,"="I don't remember".

I think I might have used "recall" rather than "remember" because it fits better as a word in the end. More climactic, I guess.

It just seemed extremely intense. That's why I asked. It felt like utter rage, fury beyond words (obviously only nearly beyond words ). Well written, but slightly freaky . I'm sure I've never felt rage that intense.

Wow....I wish I could express my feelings that well.
That's not just anger there, it's a little more complicated, which is definitely cool. So, you say that you've shown most of your poems to only a few people? Methinks you should share more of them.

That was great! I can really feel the anger and your feelings in it. it is very strong, and also it has a good rythm.
Yeah, using recall instead of remember is better in the poem I think. though I first thought of it the other way, like that they should recall you, like calling back.

Second Embladyne, share more if you have. really inspiring

I have felt rage that intense, which is embarrassing. Mostly whan I have an argument with my mother....
Very good! I like it- I like the way it doesn't beg forgiveness, or admit that the anger is an irrational lashing out, while at the same time it does not seek to justify itself. You described the feeling, pure and simple. That's hard for me to do- get a feeling across without trying to beef it up with my own personal message.

I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found

Thank you all very much for your thoughts. I'm glad I seemed to have gotten across what I was trying to.

I like how you used all those different colors - it reminds me of the various phases/moods of rage that go shooting thru your soul when you're really angry.

What I think of in the end with the "recall me" thing is that the natural result of a burning is ashes, and it's like a pile of ashes wanting to be set on fire again, but it's impossible ...

I was thinking of chemistry class when we were learning about the color spectrum in relation to heat and was wondering if you were in science class at the time of the creation of this poem.

We have had a lot of weird stuff come out of science class.

Rian, I'm glad you thought the color part worked.

Katt, no, I wasn't in science class, but I do know about the color spectrum, and with the exception of purple it is represented in my poem. Glad you caught on to that. I was thinking of fire and how they say that blue fire is the hottest, while red is the least hot. This is evident in a lot of places, including in the stars. New stars are blue (hottest), but as they age turn yellow like our Sun, and eventually to red (least hot) when they are old stars. So I wanted there to be a natural progression from red to blue, and I stick with blue. And yes, to convey the natural progression I went in order of the color spectrum. I think I learned about the color spectrum in an art class.
