History lovers? Maybe you can help me

This summer I've been given a list of books for my advanced placement european history class. I'm required to read two and write a thesis for each.

I've already picked "The Life of Thomas More" by Peter Ackroyd, but I'm not sure which other I should choose. If you have read any of these, perhaps you could suggest which would be the most enjoyable read? Here's the list:

"The Feud That Sparked the Renaissance: How Brunelleschi & Ghiberti Changed the Art World" by Paul Robert Walker

"Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond

"The Haunted Land: Facing Europe's Ghosts After Communism" by Tina Rosenberg

"Lenin's Tomb" by David Remnick

"Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time" by Dava Sobel

"Martin Luther" by Dr. Martin Marty

"A Room of One's Own" by Virginia Woolf

"The Sun King" by Nancy Mitford

"Wittgenstein's Vienna" by Allan Janik and Stephen Toulmin

Once again, I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

"Wittgenstein's Vienna" by Allan Janik and Stephen Toulmin.

If I'm not mistaken about the name, is this the same princess Wittgenstein who inspired Berlioz to write his opera "Les Troyens"?

Personally, I would go for one of these two:

"Lenin's Tomb" by David Remnick, &
"Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time" by Dava Sobel

They're both great.

The study of Martin Luther is very interesting, but the book you listed doesn't do him justice at all. It also accentuates the theological ideas that the author (a Lutheran, though often straying from this background) disagrees with, empasizing and sometimes interpreting things Luther said incorrectly.

Yes I was going to say the same thing. Any work by Diamond is worth exploring. He always has some great perspectives on things we otherwise take for granted. And Virginia Woolf may be up your alley as well.
