Super Bowl Commercials

I don't understand Super Bowl Commercials. To me it is the media that has convinced Americans that they "need to watch them". For one thing - I can watch the same commercials the next day - all they are are commercials. They're trying to sell people something and the ironic thing is that I feel they have suceeded in selling the American public the need to see these commercials. They're the same commercials they will be showing 3 months from now.

So what are other's take on the Super Bowl Commercials?

I'd say it's probably just the hype; people know how expensive it it so have a commercial during the superbowl, and figure, "They will probably be good, then." There are a lot of funny commercial (whether or not I think they are personally) and so people might not minds watching. The image of the superbowl commercial probably just grew from there. It is just one of those things you do.

Did any one hear about that commercial from...oh, I forgot the name but I think it's "Moveout.org" or something like that...Anyway, they got all this money raised to have a commercial, and the station refused to play it, because it was mildly anti-Bush. I saw the commercial, and it wasn't even very bad. There were kids working, like as garbage men, etc., and then it said something about who is going to pay for Bush's deficit. Anyway, I guess they were going through a period where it was important that they not air anything cnotroversial, so I can understand, but still, it's silly that people aren't allowed to voice their opinion on politics (free speech-isn't that one of the things our country is based on?) but people can have beer ads (alcohol destroys lives; I've seen it too many times).

There was a piece in the paper today saying that 9% of people who watch the SuperBowl do so just for the adverts. The world has gone mad.

I have never watched the Super Bowl, and never seen "the commercials" I am still a whole person.

I bet the husband and son watch it this year!

Football, too boring! ......Throw the ball, pile up in a heap, wait ten minutes, do it again...... I'll take basketball or soccer anyday. Going shopping...even better!

I watch the commercials, but that is because the theory of marketing interests me and football doesn't. I do so with all sporting events. I like to analyse how they're manipulating your mind.

It's 'Moveon.org'. But anyway- CBS cannot air a commercial that would align them with any one political point of view. Think about it. People against that point of view might watch another channel, and then where would they be?

Yeah, I knew it was either move out or move on...anyway, I can totally understand why they wouldn't play it, but it's still a little silly. For the record, if I was in charge, I wouldn't play it either.

Just for the record - freedom of speech is only protected from being limited by the government. Private institutions can accept or reject anything they want. It is the stations business not to alienate their viewers - that's why many commercials get pulled or rejected - not just political commercials. The NFL made a statement that they do not accept politcial commercials during the Super Bowl or something like that. Not sure if they accept politcial commercials at any other times though.

Also moveon.org isn't mildly anti-bush - that particular commercial might have been - but they are not. They were forced to pull one of their own anti-Bush commercials off their own website because even some of their supporters found it offensive.

Quite a few - me for one. I don't like the amount of spending that is going on right now. But I have a feeling a lot of the spending is going to be really hard to get through Congress. But internationally - I think he's great. He isn't the europeans president and that's why they have syuch a problem with him - he's America's President. He can talk to the European governments till he's blue in the face - but they won't be happy unless he does what they want. Well he's not their president - so they can't expect him to always follow what they want. But they got spoiled by Clinton who always listened to them and did what they wanted.

Okay - back to the super bowl commercials.
