Research for my dissertation on LOTR Fan Cultures

Dear Members,

I am an undergraduate media student who is currently working on her final year dissertation. It's entitled 'Lord of the Rings Fan Cultures: Examining Communication from the 1950’s to the Impact of New Media'. I'd like to know more about your experiences in the fan community. What kind of activities do you participate in and why?
To facilitate qualitative research I have carefully prepared a questionnaire comprising of ten questions. I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at it and complete it if you wish to do so. It won't take up much of your time but it'll mean a lot to me!

This seems quite interesting. I will definitely try to fill it out tomorrow when I have a bit more time.

I've filled it in. Two things I'd like to add, though: You'll want to define 'new media'. For some the internet and messageboards are still new, even today. But if you instead are referring to facebook, twitter or online MMORPG's for instance, then you might be getting wrong or useless answers.

Also, if you include fan fiction, you may also look to include fan art. Because unlike fan fiction, fan art can be sold legally.
