The war of the last alliance was from 3429 to 3441 SA. The battle of Dagorland was in 3334 SA, 7 years before Sauron fought Gil-Galad and Elendil on Mount doom. Nothing in the Appedicies not the HoME squarely state Sauron personally commanded the "Host of Sauron" at Dagorland, but it is a reasonable inference.
