Insofar as having a military council running things, yeah.

Beautiful inpiring sights....but I've seen a lot of those in the past, from, in my lifetime

Cuba
Nicaragua
Iran
Lebanon
Ukraine
Philipines
Zimbabwe
Indonesia
China
etc
Not counting the aborted ones that didn't even make the news.

OTOH

the Velvet Revs in East Europe
the Dem Revs in South and Central America
South Africa
Greece
Spain
Portugal
Korea
Taiwan
Philipines, Indonesia (give them 2/3)

So, two cheers for democracy.

Yes, I'm hoping this will blossom into something awesome... probably a lot of hard days coming for some of those people, though, as they try to sort out a democracy.

A bit sudden, I have to say. I wasn't expecting it. Now with some luck elections are announced soon but I reckon there still will be a long way ahead.

After earlier concerns that this might spread to Jordan and Saudi Arabia - it appears that the next points of dissent are: Bahrain, Iran, Libya and Yemen.

Quote of the war so far:

"They told me if I voted for John McCain we'd be bombing more Arab countries on the grounds that we'd be greeted as liberators- and they were right."

syria might get ugly.. they seem to be good at that. not much coverage from there either, and they don't have a reason to listen to american calls for restraint.

they've sealed off the town of daraa, just like they did before the hama massacre; but at least they seem to be letting people out. we'll see.

syrian protests

saudi arabia isn't immune to protests either, but of course they have the backing of their western allies.. the west does seem to like to form alliances with the worst regimes in the world. it's so, so ugly.

Could not resist the call to "not be hasty" ...

"The president of Egypt's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs is noting that a decision to freeze dialogue with the Holy See from Sunni Islam's highest authority may have been hasty."

Egypt seems like an unusual sort of place for the Ents to be taking control. Hmmm...
