Special Senate Election in Massachusetts

I hadn't been paying attention to this, because it's not my state, and I wouldn't have thought it could even be close. But this interesting little story played itself out today...

Martha Coakley offended a lot of voters by not using breathmints before a speech. If she had done that, she would have won, handily I'm sure.

On a serious note (seriously): I have stopped paying much attention to politics in general. Kinda relaxed about it all now, I guess. The MA race interested me only because the state was a Dem stronghold and somehow this Republican guy was elected without having to disguise himself as a liberal (much...though he does seem to say "independent" a lot. My dad suspects it's the new fad with pols, and I think he's right).

And now that the Republicans have a majority of 41 over the Democrats 59, how can the poor helpless dems possibly expect to accomplish anything?

I didn't expect that even the Democrats could manage to be this spinelessly incompetent.

I agree, GM. As an outsider they do seem to be spectacularly incompetent.
