Special Senate Election in Massachusetts
I hadn't been paying attention to this, because it's not my state, and I wouldn't have thought it could even be close. But this interesting little story played itself out today...

Val, what's the matter with you? It means nothing, nothing at all. How can you even consider that newsworthy? I mean, a Republican winning Uncle Teddy's seat in Massachussetts? Happens all the time .
Martha Coakley offended a lot of voters by not using breathmints before a speech. If she had done that, she would have won, handily I'm sure. On a serious note (seriously): I have stopped paying much attention to politics in general. Kinda relaxed about it all now, I guess. The MA race interested me only because the state was a Dem stronghold and somehow this Republican guy was elected without having to disguise himself as a liberal (much...though he does seem to say "independent" a lot. My dad suspects it's the new fad with pols, and I think he's right).

And now that the Republicans have a majority of 41 over the Democrats 59, how can the poor helpless dems possibly expect to accomplish anything?
I didn't expect that even the Democrats could manage to be this spinelessly incompetent. "Pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory- it's what we do." Time to form up the circular firng squad.

Shortest presidency in history?
I agree, GM. As an outsider they do seem to be spectacularly incompetent. Last edited by The Gaffer : 01-21-2010 at 11:19 AM. |
