Invasion of the fantasy movies

Here's a link to an interesting article in the Philadelphia Inquirer about future fantasy films.
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/ent...nt/8169743.htm

It seems there are a number of firm commitments on future films, so much so you wonder if they will oversaturate the market. As the article notes:
"For all the A-list fantasy projects, there are bound to be pale imitators - elves with the glue visibly oozing from their pointy-ear prosthetics.
Star Wars launched a boom in science-fiction epics, offers Jeffrey Walker, a Hollywood marketing exec who specializes in sci-fi and fantasy. "It was the same after Indiana Jones, with adventure movies. And the same thing after Batman, with superhero movies."
Predictably, Walker says, "there was mixed success.' "

Christmas 2005 should be "interesting", with both Eragon
and Disney's Narnia set to debut. And perhaps another Harry Potter?

hmm... interesting article indeed. i don't know how well most of those would work out, and the only ones i would really have an interest in seeing would be His Dark Materials, though that is just personal preference. i think most people are just "jumping on the bandwagon" so to speak. the realization that fantasy is entierly marketable has been discovered. and i doubt many of these planned movies will meet total success.

Haha, I'm shocked no one has backed Wheel of Time. Lord of the Rings brought three years of money for studios, Wheel of Time could bring decades of financial success!

But really, I'm not that optimistic about most. I'm hoping for a good Chronicles of Narnia and Dark Materials, but it will be hard to match up to the success of LotR, and anything less could be a deterrant to the genre.

How are they doing Narnia? Seven movies?
