Re: fav. fantasy movies
I have to agree that I hope that the LOTR Trilogy will be my favorite . . . it certainly has enough press even among the news boards.
However, in light of the fact that it is not out yet, here are my top 5 fantasy picks: 5- The Seven Samurai 4- Conan the Barbarian 3- Willow 2- Excalibur 1- The 13th Warrior Disclaimer: these are my personal favorites, they had nothing to do with historical integrity, legend or book accuracy, or depth of vision or story. I just liked them! |

Re: fav. fantasy movies
I loved The 13th Warrior. Very cool!
Can we count Heavy Metal as a fantasy movie? I like it a lot too, lots of fun to watch. |

labryinth. princess bride. willow. robin hood prince of thieves (don't shoot me!!). conan. braveheart. the mummy. ever after.
sci-fi i like: dune, fifth element, star wars saga, gattaca, starship troopers. someone needs to make a movie on the breadth and size of willow and conan again. i'm hoping the hobbit will be as good as the pics are looking to be... |

Re: fav. fantasy movies
Oooooo
So glad you guys mentioned the Princess Bride... its so often overlooked... yet it is such a masterpiece! Definently one of the greatest fantasy movies of all time... but not only that, one of the FUNNIEST movies of all time. Heck, practically started an Andre the Giant cult all by itself! If you haven't seen it recently, watch it again. I saw it last night, and it is just as good every time I watch it. |

I just remembered one that should occupy a high place on my favorite movie list: The Mouse That Roared. One really funny movie starring the late, great Peter Sellers

Movies
Dragonheart is pretty good, only because of Sean Connery, teh Dragon and some funny scenes.
However, poor story and so on. I have to say that MP's movie about the quest for the Holy Grail is very funny Uh, your sig seems to be screwing up the posts... please fix it |

Re:
I liked Willow and Princess Bride. And I loved DragonHeart. Legend was pretty good but you gotta be in the right frame of mind (I do anyways) Labyrinth was my sister's favorite movie. I could tolerate it but David Bowie always freaked me out when he was on the screen. Still gives me the creeps to this day. Truthfully though I think it is very hard to turn fantasy novels into good movies. It takes a good deal of effort and I think that effort (or lack thereof) is apparent when you sit down and watch the film.

Oh yeah
Also I almost forgot The Last Unicorn. It was my very favorite movie when I was a little girl. It's based on Peter S. Beagle's book and produced by Rankin/Bass.

Re: Oh yeah
I think Myazaki's "Princess Mononoke" would make good company with some of those mentioned above. Anybody else agree?
