What are your FAVORITE little moments?

What are your favorite LITTLE MOMENTS from FOTR, extended FOTR, and TTT? Try to make your picks as specific as possible. So if you really liked the entire Moria sequence, pick out the one or two moments that truly made it rock for you. It would be easy to list dozens of great stuff so limit it to your absolute favorites. Let's say no more than your TOP 5 per release.

Here are mine:

Theatrical release of FOTR:

1. Close-up of Frodo's face when he recalls Gandalf's words and decides to go on alone.

2. Frodo and Sam hugging in the boat.

3. Frodo and Gandalf talking in Moria.

4. The wide angle shot of Hobbiton from behind Gandalf's cart as Gandalf and Frodo approach. The combination of our first glimpse of the hobbit holes and Shore's moving soundtrack made it a special moment.

5. Bilbo's "I'm sorry my boy" lines after being seduced by the ring again.

Extended Edition of FOTR (the new scenes):

1. Galadriel's gifts to the Fellowship.

2. Merry and Pippin singing in the Green Dragon.

3. Frodo and Sam seeing the elves leaving for the Grey Havens.

4. At the Fellowship's departure from Rivendell, Frodo whispering to Gandalf "Mordor...is it left or right?"

5. At the Fellowship's departure from Rivendell, the looks that Aragorn and Arwen exchange.

Theatrical release of TTT:

1. The Charge of Gandalf. The combination of the stunning visuals and the incredible Shore soundtrack (particularly at the moment the sunlight shines down on the battle) made it one of the most stunning moments in cinematic history, IMHO.

2. Sam's "great stories" monologue in Osgiliath.

3. The way Aragorn looks at the boy's sword as he's gripping it before leaning down and telling him, "There is always hope."

4. Elrond's "death of Aragorn" monologue. The heart-wrenching visuals and the soundtrack music added a new layer of bitter-sweetness to their relationship for the audience.

5. Gollum sobbing and curled up on the floor in Faramir's cave.

What are yours?

I already had a thread like this for FoTR. It was called "Little things that stood out". We can add, but there were some nice ones mentioned! I was thinking of even smaller bits than you name. In FoTR, extended ....When the Galadrial smiles deeply, with the sun in her face. In fact there are several shots with that same strong lighting that makes you think of a sunny afternoon. When Gimli and Legolas are talking about the hair, the strong light is in Gimli's face, casting the same natural (unnatural for movies! ) shadows.

Also, as mentioned in the previous thread, the beautiful shot of the icy cold ring on the chain (in the snow) when held up by Boromir (if there is such a color as "blue-gold", the ring shows it) makes me shiver!

I guess I see a difference between little things that stood out and favorite movie moments. If your favorite moments from FOTR are Galadriel's smile and the ring in the snow, that's fine. I love them too, I just wouldn't list them in my personal top five list.

My primary motivation for this was to add our new favorite moments from TTT but thought, why not add the extended DVD and FOTR too?

Another moment from TTT that almost made my list was the shot of Aragorn on horseback against the backdrop of the mountains while Shore plays a rousing rendition of "Aragorn's Theme."

I'll need to get my personal dvd before I can go to TTT on this. The theater version (veiwed in the theater) was not very good quality. A crispy clear dvd, veiwed at home will probably make TTT seem better. Some of it seemed blurry, some too dark, I suspect some people have downloaded TTT form the internet already, I believe there is an Academy Award screener floating around out there somewhere! The only thing I can rmember off the top of my head is the sound of Glamdring swooshing into Gandalf's hand, when he grabs it early in his fall with the balrog. The whole falling Gandalf/Balrog, stabbing/slashing (I like when G grabs the balrog's horn and holds on ) is quite "good".

Oh, this thread is fine BB, I just thought you might enjoy reading the comments on the other!

I'll add on FoTR, not so little things! (Well maybe they are little!)

The sound the door at Bag End makes. (later heard in a much larger way as the giant trolls open the Black Gate)

Gandalf bumping his head on the beam at BE.

The mossy, open, silent look of the forrest, in the Shire, were Gandalf says goodby to Frodo and Sam.

The glowing tobacco in Strider's pipe bowl at Bree.

Boromir's tender expression when he introduces himself to Aragorn at Rivendell. (I'll add...Boromir, Boromir and all things Boromir!)

Saruman walking around the new Lurtz, admiring his handiwork.

The wide mountaintop shot of the Fellowship as "The Ring Goes South", in conjunction with the wonderful "fellowship theme" music.

The bursting out of Moria into the harsh sunlight. (I always laugh now when seeing that scene, because I remember Azelea's suggestion of how weird that would have looked if the Balrog followed them out there! )

The very scary spot of sunlight viewed up, from under the water as Sam sinks in the river.

I could go on, these are probably more "artistic delights" than a list of my top ten. Whatever.

Ah caught you smiling at me, That's the way it should be,
Like a leaf is to a tree, so fine.
Ah all the good times we had, I sang love songs so glad
Always smiling, never sad, so fine.
As we walk down the country lanes, I'll be singing a song,
Hear me calling your name.
Hear the wind within the trees, Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

"Yeah. And Grizzly Adams had a beard."

'Grizzly Adams did have a beard."

Hehe.

FOTR: Legolas' look when he hears the Balrog.

TTT: Legolas' looks when Eomer insults Gimli, when Theoden tells them to leave the dead, when he gives Aragorn the necklace back.

Hey, I'm not obsessed but I love how Orlando tries so hard to express the depth of Elven emotion. ^__^

FOTR:

The picture of Sauron's hand with the ring glowing as he carries his mace

Elrond's doubletake when he sees Sauron approaching

Gandalf hitting head in Bag End

The black rider pulling up just as he slides on the dock at Buckleberry Ferry

The ring in the snow when Frodo tumbles

Gandalf telling Aragorn to lead them to the bridge, then shoving him roughly saying "DO AS I SAY!!!" Awesome...

The whole Balrog Scene. I know, that's cheating, but I love it.

Aragorn's look as he walks out to meet the Uruk Hai after he told Frodo to run. I love the way he holds his sword up vertically in front of his face.

Legolas' look when he realizes a Balrog is come

Extended FOTR:

When Lurtz pulls the knife from his leg and licks it

When Legolas says Gandalf fell to a Balrog of Morgoth

When Aragorn slashes the knife from the air with his sword

The scene with Aragorn and Galadriel when they are departing.

Boromir consoling Frodo while Aragorn argues with Haldir

TTT:

Gandalf grabbing Glamdring as he falls, the sound of the sword whining is great. That whole scene rocks.

Gollum crying in Faramir's cave

Sam and Gollum's argument of how to eat rabbit. PO TAY TO!!!! Too funny.

Eowyn when she tells Wormtongue "Your words are poison"

Gandalf riding swiftly from the stables of Edoras on Shadowfax

Gandalf saying "the courtesy of your halls is somewhat less..."

The arrows flying during the Oliphant scene like a swarm of bees

Two very simple scenes stand out for me, both from the extended FotR

The Pub Song/scene. Honestly PJ managed to convey so much more in this scene about the nature of Hobbits in their homeland than in any in other scene. (Yeesh, hobbits are based on Yorkshiremen .......I've lived in Yorkshire, I should know ) I really wish that this had been shown in the theatrical release.

The gift-giving scene at 'Lorien, marvelous character acting and Miss (Mrs?) Blanchett caused a stir in even my stoney ol' heart

Of course that wonderful gleam in Mr Mckellan's eye when he first sees Frodo is a cracking shot as well

My favorite moment in the EE of TFOTR is when Frodo and Sam are watching the elves depart to the Grey Havens. They look so peaceful and beautiful, and the music is wonderful. I love when Sam says: I don't know why, but it makes me sad.
My favorite moment in TTT is when Sam says "Po-tay-toes!" Sean Astin said that line perfectly. The scene is straight from the book, which also gets my approval.
