The Two Towers

I'm sure a lot of people have been thinking about the Tragic events in America; and i'm sure the Tolkien Fans will be aware of the title of the second part of the Lord of the Rings. Does anybody think, that the title of the 'Two Towers' should be changed for the movies out of respect of the innocent people killed.

I don't. It'll come out towards the end of next year, for what it's worth. I think it would be silly to be upset over the title, and when one sees the movie it will be seen that there is no connection between Minas Morgul (or the Tower of Cirith Ungol) & Orthanc and the World Trade Center. The Towers of the Lord of the Rings don't fall down anyway and have no very obvious connection with one another. Books III and IV are really unconnected, and the title 'Two Towers' just takes an element from each. I don't know, I don't think it would be offensive or disrespectful.

So, thats like saying we should after this point ban Return of the King altogether because the Barudar collapses.Though I undertand you reasons for changing the title, remember the the movie is over a year away. Not that means we should orget about this horrible event though.

I think if The Two Towers were coming out on Dec. 19th instead of Fellowship then it MIGHT cause the uninitiated some pause. The title alone would probably stir emotions. But since it will be well over a year when TT comes out then I doubt many will make a connection.

I definately think they won't change the title, and if it was coming out now instead of FotR and they DID change the title I'd be VERY angry with them.

We've already seen enough films changed / delayed in response to this, and I'm willing to bet a lot of them aren't out of respect, simply because now would not be a financially good time to bring out a movie based on terrorism etc.

Things like the Spider changes really don't make sense to me. (Other than the fact the trailer was rubbish so I'm glad it's been removed!). Which shows less respect? Keeping the WTC in, now a symbol of past glory and a memorial monument to the many thousands tragically murdered, or removing it and all evidence of it's existance and hence ignoring the awful events and the many dead?

Also, a lot of this is brought on by people - often in times of trouble we seek to find patterns in chaos, for whatever reason. So someone drawing a connection between the WTC and the Two Towers is absurd, but understandable. In the same way, people saw the faces of the devil in the smoke from the plane crashes. Of course, it was just coincidence, but people always seem to look beyond that for meaning, which in this and many cases, simply isn't there.

now maybe i'm horribly wrong in this, but didn't the Spiderman COMIC BOOK do a story-arc involving a collapse of the WTC? (i've read maybe one Spiderman comic so i don't know if this is related to the terrorism or not)

i seriously doubt they'll change the title of TT because of the attacks - it'd make NO sense to change a title of a work that's been around for years & has no relation to the attacks or even the motivations behind them.

i agree with gerbil, we have to quit appologizing everytime something has the slightest connection to the wtc. people have to quit acting like they never existed, it is a slap in the face to those that suffered because of it. WWII covered over half the world, are we silent about that? is the movie about the book the two towers or is it about something else? it would make no sense to change the name of one of the movies and keep the original names for the other two movies.
