How Do I...

This thread is for the people who don't know how to do something ('Moot related), and would like to know.

EX.-
Q.How do I italicize my text?
A. Push the "I" button and type the text you want to be italicized

And so on.....

If there is already a thread like this, I did a search, but nothing like this came up. But if there is, sorry.

Or you could just type...

[.i]Text[/.i] (without the periods). I find it easier to just do that - than to click on the buttons.

Me? I don't need to know anything, I already know everything.

But if anyone else needs to know something, they can ask here.

What a silly topic.

If someone wants to know something they can always just ask another mooter in a topic (in addition to whatever they have posted) or ask an admin (pm an admin or ask in a topic).

If the question is something of great importance, they can even start their own topic.

And get an attitudfe from you in either case. See Hobbit - this is for people to NICELY help others, unlike the way you usually do it.

Actually, I think this thread is a good idea. Hobbit, do you really want 100 PMs a day saying "How do you send a Private Message, oh wait I figured it out"? I'm not saying all the questions here will be stupid, it's just that I bet a lot of people want to know the same thing.

I wouldn't mind.

I'm always nice to those who pm me and/or ask me a question.
Sometimes when people ask for title changes I don't reply though - because there are a lot.

100s of pms a day? I've maybe only gotten 500 pms total as admin in what, like 3 years?

When ppl pm questions - usually they are no stupid ones - like the example you gave. I realize you were trying to be funny or something, but obviously if they are pming you they know how to use the pm system.

There are stupid questions that are repeated all the time one entmoot - I don't think that this topic would really help, sorry.

We have a FAQ for one.

Plus, if memory serves there was a topic just like this one several months ago in which I posted that it was a stupid idea - and it never caught on.

If someone actually wants to ask a question relating to the board, I'll be happy to answer it.

Alright fine. (I was attempting to be funny, I know someone wouldn't ask you a question like that. The other thread probably never caught on because you crapped on it from high heights as well.

But I do see your point.

PHP Code:
Hm... I wonder what PHP formatting is

yup I'd say "where can i find avatars" is up there alright.

Thats like the 100th time at least someone has asked that within 5 months.

I won't even mention how many topics are on that and now there is even a topic where someone is offering custom avatars.

Avatars are just like personal photos or pictures or whatver - as said in the FAQ (read it ), you upload these from your computer or a website.

THERE IS NO SPECIAL AVATAR WEBSITE (although there are some that may have them for various themes or whatnot, and they may not be called avatars).

Just look up pictures of whatever you want, and if it does not fit make it smaller.

I think the number 1 question this past year has been "how do i get an avatar and how to I put it on"

FAQ anyone?

See, thats why I object to this topic.

Actually what the heck does IIRC mean?

I keep seeing it and I know a couple other members have asked what it is and have no clue either...

P.S. What is OT as well?

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

It means - "If I Recall Correctly" - but I always forget what it means too. I had to think about it AGAIN.

It generally means - "Off Topic" - but I always think of it as "Out There". Such as in - "I'm just throwing this out there because I want to say it."

See Tristan, the thread is already coming in handy.

You know, if I don't know what an acronym means, I look it up in an online dictionary.

Re: Where can I find avatars.

gollum9630 recommended a Google image search. I recommend doing an advanced search for "icon-sized" images, so you're under the 60x60 pixel limit.

I found this potential avatar easily doing this, but I find that you get nicer avatars cropping it out of a larger picture.

Actually, I bet you can find that one at lordoftherings.net too.
