Should Entmoot stay on ezboard?

We are giving serious thought to moving off of ezboard's server onto our own, using a bulletin board program called vBulletin. They recently adopted an ezboard import tool, so all of the messages here could go over to the vBulletin. Members would have to re-register, but as we would have total control over the board, we would change your post total to your old ezboard total, and re-instate your original date of membership.

Ezboard seems to be doing ok now with CSC, but I still don't think they can last forever. With a vBulletin on our own server, we would have total control over the board. If ezboard suddenly went out of business, we'd be out of luck, but our vBulletin would remain in operation as long as us admins are willing to pay the bills .

It is fairly expensive, but ezboard under CSC is no longer free either. If we became more popular, our costs for ezboard could skyrocket, while the vBulletin is a fixed rate.

We've already installed a featureless test version of vBulletin at www.tolkientrail.com/vblite/index.php

What do you think? If we did transfer Entmoot to vBulletin, would you still continue to visit? Vote in the poll and post your comments please.

Re: Should Entmoot stay on ezboard?

From what your saying, it seems like it will take a while to set the new Entmoot up, with posts and registration dates. I think work on the new board should begin soon, but keep ezboard around until your CSC expires so u get ur money's worth.

Folks should know that your ezboard account WILL NOT WORK ON ENTMOOT. You will have to register again, which would be the major drawback. of course, there'd be no ezskins, which would of course rock

Yes but registration would take two seconds, and we would re-instate their ezboard info, so it would be like the same account, just on our server.

On this new server, do threads "fall off" after 20 pages, like on entmoot?

Also, when you re-instate my posts for my new account, can you use my true amount of posts? (way over 500)

No I believe there are an unlimited number of pages... however, since it's taking up space on our server, not ezboard's, we might be more stringent about archiving and pruning.

I have only recently registered but I have been reading posts for quite some time.Stay here while setting up your own server.Reregistering isn't a problem we've all done it at least once.If ezboard goes and nothing is converted I think it would be much worse than merely reregistering and waiting for the correct user info to show up on the new accounts. This is a great place with great posters.Hate to see anything go wrong and have it all disappear.

Re: Should Entmoot stay on ezboard?

It looks almost exactly like ezboards, So Im game for it, but I already had an ezboard account from another forum I regularky visit, so I voted yes so it would just be easier for me.

So in summary:
I wouldn't MIND the move, but would rather not it happened.

Re: Should Entmoot stay on ezboard?

the way ezboard has been screwing my caaount around lately, registering again will be no big drawback. Not when I had to register this account again over the weekend anyways after ezboard ate it (which is why my post count probably shows as single figures here right now. On my own board I have the lowest post count in the place<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> )... I'm for. vbulletin looks good. and perhaps it'll be a little more reliable... *prays*

I think it's a great idea, Entmoot really has potential for that.

Re: Should Entmoot stay on ezboard?

I say start putting together a move as a "backup" venue, and approach this with patience.

If ezboard starts looking like it's going to implode, even on the CSC communities (it's already stripping away the ability to make threads with over a hundred posts with non-CSC communities... extortion, I tell ya) then make the move official.

Yes, exactly. Besides, ezboard nowadays is nothing else but evil.

Yes but is a "backup" worth $160? :/

I think we have to decide one way or the other, move or don't.

If ezbored is likely to flop, move the board. Otherwise, no.
