ok, im going to write jackson a letter about the hobbit(im not going top be rude...)
and im going to tell him that since the hobbit is a more simple book than lotr, that doesnt need to change it, and that we tolkien fans will not stand for changes.
but i need everyone's help to help decide what to say, and i need his address as well.

So does this mean the changes he made in LOTR are justified because they werent simple books?

Umm, I'm afraid you're forgetting about "story arcs" and "love interests." Not that this mean it will be a botched job, overall it's a much easier film to block out, but he'll certainly want some changes. At a minimum I'd look for some sort of romantic Bard and Lake-girl and Aragorn/Arwen cameos in it.

Overall, it's probably much more adaptable to film then LOTR.

no, it means he didnt take the time and heart for lotr.
not saying that the hobit doesnt need time or heart, just that ti is a shorter book. with more of a simple plot, that has no excuse to be changed.
are you going to help or not, thranduil?

Don't blow your top. Of course, Tell him he should reconsider putting arwen in. She isn't mentioned in the book so let her practice her sword play somewhere else.

myself, and a lot ofother 'rings' fans werent to happy with your LotR adaptation(except BB).
hearing you you were at making the Hobbit as well, I'd thougt I'd warn you that the fans of lotr would be quite angry if you...

1. put legolas in there
2.put arwen in there
3.omit Beorn
4.omit anything at all
5.change dialogue or plot
6. add love interests, or anything else that wasnt in the book.

Well some dialiog has to change. But not made into stupid dialog. The heart and feel of the book should remain. I don't want to see Gandalf getting angry at Bilbo and hitting him over the head with his staff.

I do NOT want to see an endless action movie or Arwen-xena elf. I think the Hobbit movie, if Jackson does it, will be a complete disaster in the eyes of fans.

I would prefer if you told him to give it up NOW - that JD will come to his house an drag him out and he WILL be sorry.

Yes some things will have to change, but hes trying to show what things real fans would really be upset with. had he seen one for LOTR movies things may have been done differently. Though I doubt that, and I think he did know what fans would be upset with. Oh well!

I personally don't think he really cared about what the fans wanted. he just wanted to make a cool fantasy action movie and Lord of the Rings provided him with a ready made audience. he knew he couldn't get that kind of money on his own to do a fantasy film - so he had to sell one to the studios that would already have fans. He rode on the coattails of Tolkien and in my opinion fell on his face in the attempt. He got what he wanted - the money for WETA and his action movie, but the fans got a lame version of Lord of the Rings.

If this movie is done right, it'd be awesome. PJ can do it without altering the book, but I'm not sure if he will.

I'll sign any letter you send. Just tell him to read the book several hundred times and make sure he fully understands it, because if Arwen plays apart in the movie, then PJ must not understand something.

But you know I'm not sure if I'd mind Legolas having a small cameo appearance.......do you think Orlando Bloom would play him?.................j/k
