Jackson has intentions to do the Hobbit

http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/stor...103162,00.html

May have spoilers, I haven't read it carefully.

Thirteen dwarves. And what about an Arwen cameo in Rivendell? Let's have Legolas help Bilbo get the dwarves out of Mirkwood, shall we? And why not replace that nobody Bard by good ol' Lego anyway?

I obviously have mixed feelings about this, but it will be certainly be worth watching.

It talks about having Andy Serkis as Gollum again. Doing this would certainly keep a continuous feel to Lord of the Rings.

Who do you think will play Bilbo? (Orlando Bloom will! Just kidding. Couldn't resist a dig at Orli there.)

i think Ian Holm could probably pull it off again, he is a great actor and makeup can take off years as easy as it add them

i'm already placing bets that if anything is cut it will be Beorn

It could well be doable, not just makeup artistry at WETA but also the fact that he was in FOTR and was middle-aged in the book anyway).

Also, they might well have Aragorn/Arwen first meeting (yes, Aragorn was really 10 at the time, but making him 20 or so would hardly be the smallest change PJ ever made.

But, no Legolas skateboarding while shooting Smaug!
Don't mess with Bard

I believe brownjenkins meant if any /major plot points/, i.e. Beorn, are cut.

Sorry - but he has not confirmed he IS doing the Hobbit only his INTENTION to do the Hobbit.

Quote:
Peter Jackson has confirmed his intention to film JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit.
He doesn't have the rights to do it yet. And he has been having problems getting those rights.

Quote:
'Rings' Director Wants to Bring 'Hobbit' to Screen

Despite his exhaustion, Jackson is not resting on his laurels and said if complex rights issues can be resolved he would like to direct "The Hobbit," J.R.R. Tolkien's prequel to the "Rings" trilogy set some 50 years earlier.

"I'd be interested in doing it because I think it would give continuity to the overall chapter," he said.

While many of the lead "Rings" characters do not appear in "The Hobbit" story, the wizard Gandalf, played by Ian McKellen (news), and Gollum, the cave dweller corrupted by the powerful ring, do and should make a comeback. Arwen, the elf princess played by Liv Tyler (news), could also feature again, Jackson said.
So - it will be interesting if he obtains the rights to make the movie. I'm not sure if the Tolkien Estate owns the movie rights. If they do and he is given the rights to film the hobbit - does this then mean that they support his abomination he calls Lord of the Rings? On the other hand, if they do own the rights and they don't allow him to do the Hobbit - does this mean they DO NOT support his LotR movies? I think so on both questions. So I hope that they will NOT give him the rights if they own the film rights.

this is exactly what i was thinking, it doesn't specifically say he is doing the movie, just that he wants to. hmm, it would be interesting to say the least if he actually does turn the Hobbit into a movie...

Maybe the thread title should be changed (no offense elf girl) just so it doesn't give people who don't read the thread the wrong impression.
But I beleive he will be given rights to film.

No problem - just didn't want people to think that he is actually doing the Hobbit. Everyone knows my feelings on Lord of the Rings and I think the Hobbit will be more of his overdone Hollywoodized action sequences loosely based on the book.

If you insist and can convince a mod to change the title, it's fine.

Cool - then I hope that New Line and United Artists/MGM stay entangled in arguments for as long as Jackson is alive or making movies.

He isn't having problems getting the rights (Newline is) and it's not the Tolkien Estate either. I believe 30 years ago Miramax bought the rights to make it a film, so Newline is in negotiations with them to try and get those rights for the film...

Newline, from what I've read, wants Jackson to do it, thus sparking his remarks of saying he wants to do it...

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin
