Does anyone know what her alias Dernhelm means?

She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight.

Errant knight sounds very romantic........a knight wandering the lands in search of adventure!

The reality, it seems, was very different.

An errant knight would not swear fealty to a specific lord, but they did, of course, serve a lord through the campaining seasons (spring-autumn) recieving pay and [sometimes] hoping to recieve the lords hospitality through the winter months.

With the exception of the title (and the protection that the law brought with knighthood) their seems to have been little difference between an errant knight and a common mercenary.

An errant knight did, of course, have the benefit of being able to leave a lords service without the loss of honour and title that a household knight would have to endure.
