Tess of the D'Urber*suck*villes
I hate this book, and I have only read the first 125 pages of it. Anyone else ever read this terrible piece of "literature" by Thomas Hardy?

Gah, don't be so judgemental, it might cause cancer. And no I haven't: I found it far too depressing, and stopped reading it about 2/3 of the way through. One day, I'll get around to finishing it... one day.

It's not that bad - it's a well-written piece of literature. It just has a laughably pessimistic view of the world, like most of Thomas Hardy.

True, but what beautiful writing! I've read The Return of the Native half a dozen times, -- the first 30 pages are sheer poetry, imho. Jude the Obscure is one of my favorite books ever, although if you're at all borderline suicidal, you should definitely steer clear of it.
