Big fans. Very big fans. But I wouldn't think it would be thought of as disrespectful. Heck, I read Bored of the Rings, for crying out loud!

Welcome to the moot!

Great idea for a thread. Can't think of any others, apart from "Pleased to meet you, hobbit's got my name"

We are not even big fans, we are fanatics, however we have a sense of humour and those would not be viewed as disrespectful.

Actually, "fan" is a shortened version of fanatic. So you mean you're just a fanatic? I'm a big fanatic.

I'll have to agree with the rest, though I think the word they're looking for is 'crazy', not 'fan'

I'll just say, before coming to the Entmoot, I considered myself pretty informed about Tolkien's books. Now I feel like a novice.

People here are HUGE fanatics.
But with a sense of humor

But "fan" is generally viewed as less intense.

See? We're nitpickers too.

If you ask my friends, they'll say I'm obsessed. Although many days go by and I make no referrences to JRRT or any of his books.

But that is only because they don't read JRRT. Or if they have, they've only read The Hobbit (not IMO his best work). They only go see the movies. And some of them don't even do that.

And this is because they are not enlightened. They have not seen the Light of The Books! They do not bask in the glory of The Books!! They have not been touched by the wonders of The Books!!! And therefore, they have not been changed by The Books!!!!

uhmmmm...oh, uh.... nevermind.

I agree most of my friends haven't even seen the movies and when ever I or Elvellyn (we go to the same school) start talking about LOTR people either give us funny looks or roll their eyes. But thats ok because I confuse them with that only make sense to me! ex. If the sky was red and my were blue how old is the earth? (not one of my best examples!)

I am NOT! .....ok, just a little. But if I mention (beloved) Finrod, they go into a blank stare, not even blinking at all. It's freaky. So, I don't mention him. It's enough that I am called obsessed because of my love of JRRT's works.

Insidious Rex: no, I've never heard of Orc Feathers! I'll have to rent it if I can.

References out loud, to them. Please, I would think you would know me better by now!!! Sheesh! I live and die by Tolkien.
Although, as you know, if I die, after a while, I get to come back again (being an Elf). *everyone rolls eyes* (*sigh* why doesn't anyone believe me?)
