Does "Smith of Wootton Major and Farmer Giles of Ham" have anything to do with Middle-Earth?

"Smith" is a fascinating book - it deals with inhabitants of Faerie, but not Middle Earth by name. "Farmer" is a very fun little story about a dragon. Both are Middle-Earth-ish, IMO

They are published in the same book, at least the copy I have, but they are two entirely different stories. Farmer is very fun and light; Smith is very interesting ... I recommend them both.
