Attac of the clones

I hope anybody here is able to help me!
I really love Star Wars, but in Attac of the clones I didn't understand the purpose of the clones.
Were they produced for the good side or the evil?
I really didn't understand the whole clone thing and I think it would be necessary to know this to understand Episode III or even Episode II.

It confused me too, but when i saw the movie the 4th time i got it. Y'see, i think, Palpatine/Sidious had just corrupted dooku and told him to deleat kamino from the records. that was so the cloning would be secret. then dooku assassinated Jedi master Sypho-dyas. dooku went to kamino and ordered the clone army in disguise as Master Sypho-dyas.

later dooku, at sidious' command turned all the trade unions in to the Separatists. so then the situation looked desparate and palpatine got emergency powers. then he knew that he had this mighty army ready to smush the Seps. (which i bet he will) then when the Seps are smushed he just goes on and become emperor!

come to think of it the war would kill a bunch of jedi that would get in the way too.

I thought Christopher Lee was soooo good in this movie!!!
They were programmed to obey ones with the dark force.

Christopher Lee seems to fit into every bad guy character. That does not mean that I don't like them.

palpatine also probably wanted to get rid of the potentially rebellious, independant trade federations. after all, all he wants (I think) is to become the most powerful dude in the universe

Which he'll do by defeating the Separatists. I agree with you about his ambition; it has been the lust of many past dictators in our own history.

When Palpatine's badness goes public, it won't go public as badness. It'll still seem to be good so that he can maintain his support. Only a few will recognize him for what he really is. Obi-Wan, for one, will see him for who he is. And I really wonder how that will make him think of Darth Tyrannus (Count Dooku), who actually was telling him the truth when he was imprisoned. I expect it won't have too much effect on Obi-Wan's thinking; many ill feelings have already passed between him and Tyrannus.

The clones were produced for the Republic. Palpatine is gaining control of the Republic, and he will simply take the next step, transforming the Republic into the Empire. When he does that, the clones will still be serving the same group (In their sight). They started out serving the Republic and they will continue to do so. The fact that this ruling body has undergone internal changes won't effect them- they still serve this body. And the Republic won't change that much, Palpatine has always been using slow, stealthy powers to gain control. And he always looks like what he is doing is good, which gives him all the greater power. I think that he will continue to do so, though certain individuals (Such as the Jedi Order) will recognize him for what he is and see what he is doing at last, and then they'll die fighting it.

I wonder why Palpatine didn't use the Clones in Episode II against the Jedi.

The Jedi are connected to the Republic and are publicly accepted as peacekeepers in the galaxy. Killing them off would be a plainly evil deed to the galaxy, and besides, the clones wouldn't accept such an order at that time. They were under the command of the Republic, not only under the command of Palpatine at that point. His power hadn't reached its point of strength and he had no reason to give the public for a mass murder.

The clones had just been ordered in Episode II, so they weren't ready.

I wonder how Obi Wan Kenobi will be looking then. I hated his beard in Episode II.

on attack of the clones i got shivers when i saw all those first clones coming to back up the jedi but the movies are a bit disapointing. i dont know what hapened to lucas. the first ones in the 70s were much better
