Best portrayed character in the Lord of the Rings films

Hey there fellow members of the Entmoot. Just out of curiousity, I was wondering which character is the best portrayed in the movies in terms of how the character was described in the book. My vote goes to either Andy Serkis as Gollum or Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins. Both were almost exactly how I pictured them.

My vote goes for Gandalf...simply perfect. A close second goes to Boromir.

Aragorn and Legolas are also excellant, just not how I pictured them from the books.

in my opinion every character was portrayed to the exact picture in my mind.for me gimli and aragorn were best.

Anyway, I thought Samwise was portrayed very well in the movie. He seemed to me to be the same, simple, loyal, devoted servant he was in the books.

i thought the sackville-bagginses were well-portrayed. in the EE. seriously though, i'd have to say samwise's character was perfectly replicated in the films, as was gollum/smeagol's.

and at the expense of sounding cheesy, i would say the character best portrayed on the big screen was middle earth.

I think they were all potrayes really really well. Everyone was exactly how I pictured them, except maybe Arwen and Gimli. I didn't picture Gimli so funny/stupid, and I pictured Arwen less warrior like. But other then that they were all great.

i agree, i think everyone in the movies were portrayed very well, except merry and pippin are a little...well...dumber, in the movies. but i think that adds a bit more humor to the films, its great nonetheless.

I thought Aragorn was good. But Faramir, what'd they do to him? I think they got him confused with Boromir. But all in all everyone was portrayed good I think.

Aragorn's "frightened of his lineage" bit was not in any of Tolkien's works, I believe. Other than all that, I thought he was good.

Sean Bean found real depth in Boromir.

I have recently found out that the guy who plays Faramir is a rugby league fan, so I'd just like to disown my previous thoughts and say what a fine job he did!

No, they didn't confuse 'em, PJ isn't as interested in preserving Lord of the Rings as he is in making money and turning into how he thinks it should have been.

Bilbo! Some of the characters I liked more than in the book, (is that an improvement!? I think so) Boromir, Gandalf, Wormtounge, Eowyn, Legolas. Even though Merry, Pippen, and Gimli were given "comedy" that was out of character, the actors pleased me with their physical presence. I liked Galadriel, except the psyco bit. I loved Aragorn, though the character is slightly different, Viggo's hard work surpasses my bookish imagination! Frodo, didn't have as much depth as in the book, but I like the movie Frodo also. I find little not to like, but Bilbo is the best!

Not many characters were portrayed exactly the same as in the books. Even Gandalf, who acted a little silly and not at all like a maiar at times. I think Sam and Bilbo were perfect, I can't think of an instance where they acted differently from the books. In TTT Gollum acted a little wiser than I imagined him to be. Galadriel came across as slightly mean. Frodo acted a bit wimpy. Merry, Pippin and Gimli acted like idiots sometimes. It seemed like Saruman acts on behalf of Sauron (or maybe thats what they want in the movies). Treebeard was too hasty. Haldir wasn't portrayed well, unfortunately for him.
