Did anyone read these books when they were little?
I thought they were great.

i think it's Dr. Suess. Some of my favorites were "A Great Day For Up", "Green Eggs and Ham", and "The Cat in the Hat". and then there was one with something to do with a zoo. after i read that book i had a really wierd dream about animals and stuff and i thought i was real. When i was little i had Green Eggs and Ham memorized.

Actually, guys, it's Dr Seuss. The man was a genius!!! Loved all the books, the drawings, the use of language -- always felt it was wasted on children.

I have a six year old son. We read them as many are on the "accelerated reader" thing. (Being a very competitive boy, my son will not read anything unless it's on the AC list. It's all a sport, and he wants to win!

) I like "Thing one and Thing two" from The Cat in the Hat" I like the fish that gives the cat a hard time also. I always thought that "cleaning machine" the cat comes back with, was rather creepy looking!

I LOVE Dr. Seuss! I learned to read when I was 4-5, and THESE were the stories I cut my teeth on. I think I started with The Cat in the Hat. When I grow up, I will always have a huge collection of Dr. Seuss.

Let's see... I love "Green Eggs and Ham". When I was in kindergarten, the lunchroom ladies made green eggs and ham for us to eat. They still cook it for us on Dr. Seuss's birthday, but I'm about the only one brave (or is it stupid?) enough to eat it. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is another of my favorites. For some reason, I like "The Lorax" too. There's a rather funny one called "You're Only Old Once". If you get the chance, check it out.

I remember in one of his books (Or maybe a full book) it was called "I can read upside down". That was my favorite when I was little and of course "Green Eggs and Ham" and "Cat in the Hat" Were also favorites.

Oh wow! We did that, too! Only eggs, though, not ham. Unless I just don't remember. I just ate the eggs, at any rate. Eggs with food coloring added are a whole lot less scarier when you know it's food coloring.

mayYa, they were great! I loved his ryming and his creativity, and all of the creaters that he made up! I remember thinking that he was the best author ever when I was little. And by the way, it Isn't Dr. Seuss eather, I don't remember the exact name, but I'll look it up in the book that I found it in and tell you.

In those days, my Grandpa would buy them in packs of three and send them to me constintly. I remember him making up excuses to do this "were you good in scholl today?" did you help you mommy today?" "were you nice to you sister today?" or even "did you read the last books that I sent you?" and of course, every time I would say yes, and he would go and buy me some more. He also did the same thing with Beany Babys. My Grandpa was great, if he hadn't gotten cancer, and was still alive, then I would have tons of Lord of the Rings merchendise right now, more then I could dream of! I wish that my Grandpa had never died! I loved him soooo much, and I still do!

maybe that is partly why I liked Dr. Seuss so much! I even did a reserch project on him in like 2nd grade, it wasn't a grade, it was just for the fun of it. I remember when I had Dr. Seuss info. taped to my door, and It sorda makes me think about how now I have LOTR pictrures taped on my blanket/door! How wonder full, thanks for starting this thread, you just brout back a lot of old memories!

I read quite a number of them. Even when I was really young, I thought they were stupid. Weird creatures in weird environments saying meaningless things.
But didn't he write some story that was made into a movie, and involved something like "heffalump trees"? The trees with cotton-like foliage, all cut down to make into all kinds of stuff? I love that movie. I feel so sorry for the trees.

It seems to me that though Doctor Seuss' works (which were great

) are sold as mainstream fiction, they are more suited to fantasy.
