Bored of the Rings!!

I saw this book on a shelf in WHSmith. ( A book, mag, food store etc) It was called Bored of the Rings. I haven't read it but if any one has then please give their views on it.

It's a parody. I've heard an excerpt out loud, and it seemed really funny...

It is hilarious. First time I read it, I was on a flight from Georgia, to Ohio. I burst out laughing. It was one of the funniest Tolkien parodies I ever read. Trust me, if you know Tolkien, it is funny, if not,. it is meaningless.

Well, if you burst out laughing in public then it must be good! Thanks.

I read it years ago, and it made me laugh out loud. Especially the bit where

the ringwraiths fall about laughing at Stomper's broken sword, allowing the boggits to kick them all in the goolies

oh and the bit where

Galadriel offers sexual favours in exchange for the Ring

I seem to recall that it ended up taking its own story a bit to seriously, though.

It was funny, but I have to admit there were bits I just didn't get at all! Maybe I'm too young to get some of the references. When was it first published?

Oh its hilarious!!! I leant it to my music teacher after I'd read it and he's never looked at me the same way since. I read it in the common room at school and kept getting really dirty looks when I burst out laughing every five minutes. Its a brilliant read though not as good as the original of course. Mx

Why do I get grayed out bars in of Duandan's post (2nd & 4th lines) and in Arwen's post (after the lol...)? Is it some activeX content rejected by my browser security settings?

Um, not quite. It's a setting you can do in your posts to blank out spoilers for those who don't want to read them. If you do want to read them, just highlight the grey bars and you will see text.

Bored of the Rings may be the single associated piece of literature that i have read outside of the Lord of the Rings besides the hobbit and tolkien's letters. it surprised me that few others would acknowledge it's existance. i think it's always a sign of strength when you can still stand solidly when being criticized. the Lord of the Rings is still read and loved by millions all over the world and it really bothers me that people would shut out different perspectives. i'm glad THIS site appreciates that. =)

Tolkien parodies

I believe that though LOTR is a wonderful masterpiece, it is ok to make fun of it. Everyone needs to have a little comedy in their lives. This book is an hilarious parody of LOTR, though it is not suitable for children, adults will find it quite entertaining. Tolkien himself might have even found it somewhat funny. In LOTR there is so little humor, except for moments of spontaneity where Sam, Merry, and Pippin are concerned. I would suggest that anyone who is an avid reader of Tolkien should read this parody, but remember have an open mind going into it.

A very, very funny book. You can read excerpts and see if it's for you at:
