educating the masses : literature club

im starting a "literature club" in school. it's really a lord of the rings club in disguise, and all the possible members know that!
but what i really need are things to talk baout lord of the rings related, it can be any book by tolkien, and it can be about the movie or the books or the animation. im also going to show them some elvish, since most of these poeple are freshmans, and i am older and wiser (hehe i love being at the top of the food chain!)
well what are some topics to discuss, you guys always seem to come up with such good ones. and no, favourite rug colour won't be accepted.

You could discuss important life lessons we can learn from Tolkein, who your favorite character is and why, could anyone have willingly destroyed the ring?, the ladies of LOTR, etc. Try nosing around the LOTR books and Middle Earth forums for more ideas!

"The one constant through all the years has been the Trombone. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. Its been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again, but the Trombone has marked the time. This field, this section, this band is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again. Oh, people will come . . . people will most definitely come."

You should host debates about pertinent debatable issues in the book, like who was responsible for what, etc.
