Extended Edition of FotR!!

I'm extremely excited about the extended edition of the DVD coming out! Last night at 2:30 in the morning I (again!) watched the preview for it on the other DVD.

There is going to be soooo much more in this one, including a lot more elf screen time like the gift-giving scene! Can't wait!

I really believe that the Extended Version will become the definitive FOTR movie for Tolkien fans. Many of the criticisms of the movie that have been expressed here have to do with the lack of character moments.

But its not as if Jackson ignored them. Many of the things missing from the book that we were hoping to see were shot. However, New Line had the fate of their entire company riding on the outcome of this first movie. They couldn't afford a flop. So with a running time approaching 3 hours, Jackson had no choice but to sacrifice many special moments (such the gift giving scenes) for the action sequences.

I wouldn't be surprised if even some of the Purists see the light after seeing FOTR-EV.

Movie theatres like to keep movies at 3 hours or less so they can have the time to show them more. No doubt more liberties can be taken now that Fellowship boxoffice $$ has basicly paid for all three movies. No doubt this DVD will be worth the wait. I only rented the first one.. I will be buying the extended.

This will be the one I purchase also. I wonder if there will be several versions of the other movies too. I'll sit tight on my money to be sure I get the best version of the next two movies. Do you think when it's all said and done, the sneaks will come out with a 3 movie DVD with even more new scenes!

In a word... Yes. They will market it for all they can get, and sometime in 2004 they will put out an enhanced box set.

The extended version will have Aragorn singing an elvish song to the hobbits, some conversation bewtween Aragorn and Boromir in the "trophy" room at Rivendell, Galdriel's gift-giving to everyone, the passing of elves to the west, and so much more....I am so looking forward to it. My family was served due notice that this is what I want for Christmas....along with the new Annotated Hobbit.

Aaaah, I can't wait!!! Only a month!!!!
