I would invest it first (that's my economic education shining through). And then I'll probably use it for charities.

Convert to SA Rands = R10,500,000
Take about R1,500,000 for a house and car (or two) and other goodies. Invest the rest in a fixed income fund, yeilding at least 12% pa. Live off half/one third of the interest, which is R45000/R30000 pm. Re-invest the remaining interest. Bugger charity. This is truly brilliant. With $1 million, I could finally become a hermit!!! Yay. Now, since my house, which is actually a log cabin in the middle of some forest (overlooking a lake, ofcourse), I would have quite a bit of that R1.5million to spend on "a car (or two) and other goodies. Since I am a hermit, I don't really need a car. But I'd buy a Toyota Megacruiser (coz it doesn't give a crap about nothing (and has four-wheel steering)) anyway (with some serious ice). Then, when it comes to other goodies, there is, for one, my home theatre: Sony CRT HD Projector High gain screen. Seven Jeff Rowland power amps (one channel each). Theta THX surround preamp processor. Tag MacLaren THX DVD player. Miller & Kreisel THX speaker package. Oh, and don't forget the Krell Master Reference sub (2.6kW). And my pc: Damn fast pc, is all. Probably have a few CPUs, a couple gigs of memory, blah blah blah.... Plus T1 line (Since I am a hermit, I'd be buying all sorts of stuff off the net, instead of venturing into daylight...) And when I die, what will happen to all the unspent money? Who knows, but bugger charity. Maybe I'd specifiy in my will that the remaining funds be used to start an institution that upholds a new religion, based on my writings and mysterious life (of which the legends tell...) |

I would spoil my husband rotten! Martin guitars, a cabin in the Smokeys, another Harley, whatever he wanted. We'd fix up the house, (and not do any of the work ourselves! hire it all out, wheee!). I'd go out to eat a lot at fancy restaurants and get a little bit chubby.

Save for my brother and my college educations, pay bills, save for whatever else, and buy my brother a gameboy game, my mom some artsy thing, my dad some really complicated novel, and myself something LotR. Or, my parents would want a new 32 inch tv since one of ours just went out.

With $1,000,000 I would first put it in the bank for a year or so and accumulate some interest on it, then I'd buy a new car, pay for university, buy my family some nice gifts, and think about getting a horse!

Take care of any debt for my mom and myself.
Pay off my massive school loans. Get a nice pad to fit my Spartan tastes. Get nice black car "European Styling" Then return to school( again) sooner than my current planned date. I'd invest. So my money would last. Set up accounts for my friends to go to school for something that they enjoy. ( I'm not just going to give it away) (e.g) I'd give BoP funds to study and live in America as long as she got passing grades. I have minimalist taste, so as a low maintaince guy I wouldn't have major expence. I travel around the world now so that wouldn't be a major goal anymore. I'd study European war arts. By a lot of LOTR RPG stuff. I'd invite all of my favorite net buddies for one big bash. Get a really nice gym maybe open a movie company fund critical thinking and education

I'd probably use some to travel, some to fund my ongoing (*sigh*) studies. Invest the rest, either in property, or shares.

Use it for the needs in today's society. In other words: college, clothes, car, etc...

I'd invest it so it would last and I would use it to pay for college, bills etc. Instead of using part of it to buy a house I would buy some land and build a large house made to look like Rivendell and I would open it as a Bed & Breakfast.

Hmmm... one million plus? Probably set aside enough in a bank to pay for college and stuff and then donate it to charities. You don't need THAT much money, so long as you're provided for....
