Archery/swordsmanship Part II

I wasn't sure if this needed to go in the Movie or Middle Earth thread. So I posted it in both.

Archery/swordsmanship Part II
Does anyone recall how Aragorn and Legolas carried their bows in the movie. IIRC it was some how between their quivers and their backs. How they put them there while still being strung and quickly accessible is what I guess I'm after.

In the movie you can just gloss over stuff like this.

wow, that's alot of reserch. cool, but i would like to point out that in the second post that the mother made, the picture of just the quiver and bow of leggy's that is the set that he gets from lorien. before that in the movie if you look close, his bow is drak brown wood and it has a gold leafy vine thing twirling around it., and his quiver looks like green suede. (sp?)

very very cool, darn, now i have to go watch it again to make sure im right about this. hehe

I'm an Archer so I definately know. They have recurve bows that don't have anything in the middle. So they had the string at the front of their bodies going over their right shoulder and crossing their chest and it goes under the left arm at about the waist, they had the bow part connected to the string<of course> and it went over the right shoulder and under the left arm, the part on the right shoulder went over the quiver so they could take off the bow and grab a bunch of arrows easily.
Of course I'm sending a pic of Legolas. So if you want me to send you pics of anyone in the Movie or DAoC screenshots let me know.

Actually I went through the film with a friend. Aragorn's bow is UN-strung and connected to his quiver.

Legolas' is ALWAYS strung. There is one scene were it is "holstered" in or behind his quiver.

Hi all - I've been browsing the 'moot for a couple of months now with great enjoyment, and just joined a few days ago. I'm also an archer, so I'll kick in with my 2 cents' worth.

I was going to ask my fellow archers if they noticed that the Elves (Legolas and the Lorien elves) shoot with recurve-style bows (by far the most elegant bows, IMHO - can you imagine them with compound bows! *shudders*) and Aragorn (and probably the men from Rohan, when we get to see them in TT) shoots with a short longbow-style bow. Just one of the neat little details in the movie!

Also, you can really tell Orlando had some training - he always anchors so nicely to the corner of his mouth (the usual field-shooting anchor point), while Viggo anchors all over the place - by his eyes, in front of his chin, etc. Oh well, he's pretty darn good with a sword, though!

As far as strung/unstrung, Legolas' bow is sort of semi-strung - you can see clearly in "The Ring Goes South" chapter (when they so cleverly walk in slow-motion over the ridge ) that the string is near the top of the bow, but is not truly strung - if he shot an arrow with it like that, it would only go a few feet! Like the good conscientious *runs to dictionary to check spelling, makes minor correction* elf archer he is, he doesn't keep it strung all the time. However, it is all ready to be strung quickly to its regular shooting tension.

Any other archers out there with comments?
