A Tale of the Ring

Hi Everyone, I am new here and want to start an RPG... but I'm not exactly sure how...please help! I have only ever been in one RPG before and it was MUCH different.

I want my RPG to be about Frodo and a fellowship (different from the books) and how they lose the ring... and Sauron finds it and somehow they have to get it back. Can someone help me??

Well, to run an RPG, all you need to really do is get people willing to join in. You can either have it a joint thing or, since you seem to have a story somewhat planned out, you could be the Game Master, as it were.

Basically, you could get the people that want to play to be different characters, while you run what happens in the story (the ring is lost, the ring is found, etc.)

Thanks!!! Umm... Does anyone want to join??? I need people to join..... like Frodo.... also someone to be an elf skilled with archery (whether you're Legolas or a made up one that's ok) A dwarf, Men (2 or more, one needs to be Isilador's (sp?) heir....) A Gandalf-ish wizard , 3 young hobbits.... and any amount of made up characters. Most important is Frodo of course.
Oh, by the way my name is Allorien, (which is made-up) and I'm an lady-elf (kinda like Arwen) and I am a part of this fellowship....

If you get this going I would be interested in playing Sauron.

by the way-- Gollum is(was) a hobbit.

A few questions...
When did the fellowship lose the Ring?
Did the Nazgul take it from Bilbo(since Frodo is still alive)?
Do we need Nazgul? How about Saruman?
Do all other events that have happened in FotR hold true to Tolkien, or the PJ movie? or are we making up our own FotR and then playing TTT?
and how do you get a circumflex over the "u" in Nazgul?

Ok, in answer to your questions, first off, it will go mostly by the movie, although perhaps some of the finer details may come from the book. (such as the twenty some-odd years which are supposed to pass between Bilbo leaving Bag End and Frodo leaving Bag End) It's really up to the character if some detail from the FotR book is needed for and action or thought to make sense.
I guess one change is nesscessary (sp?) and that is that Frodo and Sam meet friends who form a new fellowship once they are across the river. (similar to the old one) And perhaps Aragorn, Legolas and whoever find them again. (That's up to Legolas and Aragorn's characters)

Saruman would probably be fun to have, if we do get someone to play him. (you have to forgive me, it's been a LONG time since i read the two towers.) Same with the Nazgul. As for the circumflex over the 'u', I have no idea!!!!

You also asked if the Nazgul took it from Bilbo (since frodo is still alive) Well, it could either mean that the ring either left them, or the Nazgul took it and Frodo escaped. (it's up to the ring and the Nazgul!)

hee hee Thank you for recapping characters..... I would've done it last night; and started to, but I had to leave right away. Couldn't have done it without trusty Sauron who in the land of Mordor bakes pie

I'm glad we have a Sam and Frodo now. And a Firglinwen.

Note to 'Firglinwen' if you would rather have the name Arwen, you can... but if you'd rather be 'Firglinwen' that is ok too!
