Ontario
Hey, I'm going to Ontarion, Canada for my hols and can't wait! Is there anybody on the Moot that lives there, knows anything that might help me? Eg: Someone told me that you are supposed to spit over the edge of Niagara falls, true or false?

Noldorlord - Ontario is big - so you do have to say where you're going in order for people to make suggestions. For all I know you could be going to the section of Canada where the only way to really get aroudn is by dog sled. But the majority of the population of Canada is within 200 miles of the US border - so I doubt your going way out in the wilderness areas. Niagara Falls - Canada side is tacky. It has many max museums and junk. Never went into any of them. Hard Rock Cafe is there now. On the American side - although it's not the Horseshoe Falls you can walk down to the foot of the American Falls which is pretty cool. On the Canadian side you can take a tunnel down and watch the water falling from Horseshoe Falls in front of your face - sorry not as exciting. Taking the boat would be cool though. The most exciting thing to do though is to take a barrel over - just kidding. There is an Indian Museum on Six Nation Indian Reserve - by Brantford. Alexander Graham Bell's house is also by there and is a museum. You can see the Long Houses and everything. Also in the beginning of August they have a huge Pow Wow - I think it last three days. If your going to Toronto - then it's a city. The same stuff as any other city. There is CN Tower there - never been up it though. It's the tallest tower I think (including antenae) - but the tallest observation deck in the world was in the Twin Towers. They had a "flight simulator" ride in the basement. I think it took you "into" space or something. Similar to Star Wars in Epcot Center. Not too far from Toronto is Canada's Wonderland which is an amusement park. That's about all I can tell you right now. When I go up there - I generally stay around Six Nation Indian Reserve and the Brantford area. But I have been to Niagara Falls a ton of times.

hhmmmm *racks brains for things to do in t.o.) the CN tower is cool i guess, i've only been once i think but its worth a visit if you are going to Toronto. There are all the obvious tourist site, and PCW, and there is pretty good shopping down on Queen St. It would be good to know specifically where you are going!!

oh i love toronto, as soon as im legal im going to quit this american thing and become a citizen of canada.
cn tower, and skydome, veggie burgers at hard rock cafe in the skydome are very good. china town, if you go to a halfway underground chinese restaraunt don't get the ginger crab, it's not worth the work for the crab. eaton centre- that is a full day right there. it took me almost all day (well the world youth crowds were there-so very crowded, but still) it took me all day and i only got thru about 88% of the mall!?! if you like sushi there is a good place on carlton street called daily sushi.. they are quite nice.. yum yum.. i can't thin of anymore right now. ohh casa loma has an audio tour now, it's alright, a bit limited, but still cool.

I guess Toronto doesn't impress me mucj because I live within an hour of NY and Philadephia. But Toronoto is cool - it's just a city to me though. There are other things that I like to do in Ontario - number one is to visit my friend Trish (whose b-day it is tomorrow) on Six Nation Indian Reserve and just hang out with her.
Erawyn - Please keep your socialism and high taxes on your side of the border. Thanks.

You could go see a Blue Jays game. I'd wait until the Red Sox came to town, though. My grandmother's been to Toronto, but I've never been north of Tennessee. Maybe someday...

I was just in Toronto a few weeks ago.
The CN tower is cool, but there's not much in the Toronto skyline to see I took a tour of the skydome, and it was only cool because we got to see the roof open up. The Eaton center isn't anything special. I've been to better malls. If hockey is your thing, then go to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Canada's Wonderland is an okay amusement park. If you like roller coasters, then go on the stand up roller coaster they have, but only go front row or it's not worth it. |

This is an old thread but oh well... I just came back from seeing Niagra Falls and we stayed in Ontario, Canada for 3 days. The falls was an awesome sight to see, we went on the maid of the mist, behind the falls and the caves of the mist on the U.S. side, which was so much better. While staying on the Canadian side I was rather impressed how clean the city was. Overall, it was a decent trip, anyone else been to Niagra Falls?

Yep. A few years ago.
Newfoundland and Labrador are such beautiful provinces (or are they just one province?). That's one of my favorite places to visit now, along with the northwest U.S. and British Columbia.

The Falls are great -- on both sides. I love how much closer you can get on the American side, though. But the park on the Canadian side is really beautiful to stroll around in. And if you are there after dark, it's really neat seeing the illumination of the Falls from there. Also, on the Canadian side there is a really lovely drive between the Falls and the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The Botanical Gardens are wonderful and I want to go to the Butterfy Garden someday, though I haven't had the chance yet. I've been to the Falls a number of times and there is so much to see and do there, I always end up finding something new to do. The last time I was there, I went up Skylon tower. It was a beautiful, clear, sunny day and we could see all the way to Toronto. And speaking of Toronto, there is a new Fast Ferry service running between Rochester and Toronto now (service just started last week). The boat is state-of-the-art and the trip takes about two and a half hours. Next time you are in the area, don't forget to stop in Rochester!!

Oooo. Toronto. =CN Tower = revolving restaurant waaaaaaaaay up high (hey, I know there are lots but they built theirs beforethe fad). Much fun! I love big cities. Did they also have all the cows? wait...that was Chicago. Did they have moose? or something? Artists got to paint them; lots of cows all around the city, eventually auctioned off for charity.
woah. not talking in real sentences/phrases today.
