Douglass Adams

I just read "The Long Dark Teatime of the Sole". Great book. It doesn't really get wrapped up though.

Which is your favorite book out of the very misnamed Hitchikers Trilogy?

Mine is either "Life, the Universe, And Everything" or "Mostly Harmless"

I really couldn't decide. I like them all. I prefer the Long dark teatime of the soul to the first book though (in the Dirk Gently series), and Life, the universe and everything in the hitchhikers series. Btw, I think there's already a Douglas Adams thread.

I loved them all, but Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was probably my most favorite.

There's no general Douglas Adams thread, but there's a big discussion on HHGTTG here.

No one is in the HGTTG thread. And I also want to talk about books like "The, Long, Dark, Teatime of the Sole" and other books about Dirk Gently that arn't related to the HGTTG.

I just read TLDTOTS and liked it a lot. I was wondering which came first. TLDTOTS or LTUAE because in LTUAE, Trillian is also dating the Thunder God Thor.

Very interesting................................

Have you read The Salmon of Doubt? It's the unfinished third Dirk Gently novel Adams was working on before he passed away, and was published posthumously along with a lot of other Adams writings...

Yes - essays, speeches, and ten chapters of the unfinished Dirk Gently novel.

What is "Young Zaphod Plays It Safe"? I was going to get it but it was only available at the end of a...it's late, one of those big books where all of the books are in it together... but I already had all the books and couldn't afford the...thingy...

Is Young Zaphod a separate short story, or is it an unfinished chapter, or what?

"Young Zaphod" is a separate short story that's been around for ages... it was published with one of the five-in-one editions of the "Trilogy" years ago, I recall.

Try and get a copy of the original HHGTTG radio scripts if you can - the amount of humour in even the directions to the actors/SFX department etc is great.

And listen to the HHGTTG radio series tapes if you can... I've found them at public libraries before.

I am so very sad that Douglass Adams passed away. There just isn't another author like him. I loved THGTTG series, but the Dirk Gently series was my favorite, and I wish he's been able to finish the 3rd book. Someone might try to continue his work, but it would never be the same. We will never see his like again.

Has anyone read the HHGTTG comic book? I saw that the other day and it looked really interesting. I didn't buy it though, I was short on cash. I was just wondering if anyone had read it though, and if so, was it good?

Never seen the comic, no...

There's a hilarious short story by Adams called "The Private Life of Genghis Khan". It's best enjoyed if you're familiar with Life, the Universe, and Everything, but that's the hardest I've laughed at a short story in a long time, in any case. You can find it in the posthumous compilation The Salmon of Doubt.
