R.A. Salvatore

Anyone read one or more of his books? I'm quite fond of his work in Forgotten Realms. Drizzt Do'Urden was pure genious.

RE: R.A. Salvatore

I've read 'The Dark Elf Trilogy' Icewind Dale, The Halfling's Gem, Streams of Silver, 'The Legacy of the Drow Collection'. Now I need 'The Silent Blade' but I can't seem to get a hold of it anywhere (Amazon UK seem to have a real problem with it)

I thought The Dark Elf Trilogy was incredible, 3 of the best books I've ever read especialy the first of the 3. Since then though, it's been getting worse and worse, namely because of Cattie Brie and the ultra political correctness of her character. Artemis Entreri is a great character though, as is Jarlaxle.

I just got the Dark Elf Trilogy for my birthday...am wondering, should I read it? Is it good, and worth my time?

Check out his Demon Wars Saga, it's my favorite series next to Tolkien, much more mature then his FR stuff, but The Dark Elf Trilogy is a great read.

Demon Wars Saga
1. The Demon Awakes
2. The Demon Spirit
3. The Demon Apostole
4. Mortals
5. Ascendence
6. Transcendencse
7. Immortals

I agree, good read. Salvatore is one of the better gameworld authors. Unfortunately, he spawned a movement of rebel characters in DND... I was glad to know he didn't approve of it.

He is pretty good. I really liked "The Woods Outback". It was really cool.

If you liked the Dark Elf Trilogy (particularly Homeland), you might want to try the War of the Spider Queen Series--it's quite good so far. I was a bit skeptical at first, simply because it's a six-part series written by six different authors, but they've surprised me.

I've got all his FR books, bought them all and is currently reading the Clerics Quintet (I first read The Thousand Orcs and figured I had to read them all...) So far The Darkelf Trilogy has been the best, but I really liked the Thousand Orcs as well. The icewind dale trilogy was ok, and The Clerics Quintet was a little slow in the beginning, but is starting to build up now. I love Pikel

I think it is Salvatore's rappid actionscenes and his characters that appeal to me so. I always get immersed with his writing. But I think his plots is somewhat cliché, yet effective.

I will try his Demon Wars books once I finish the FR ones
