The Epic of Snowball

An epic is defined as a long, narrative poem that revolves around an epic hero, who possesses ideal social qualities. For example, in Homer’s classic epic, The Odyssey, the epic hero, Odysseus, exhibits fortitude, temperance, and strength of body and mind, all of which were greatly valued attributes of the ancient Greek culture. In the following epic, Snowball, my American Eskimo dog, demonstrates such “exemplary” canine characteristics as cowardice, overindulgence, disloyalty, physical weakness, and idiocy, which ultimately lead him to triumph.

In the vast Alaskan terrain rivaled two civilizations of wild and wily beasts,
But astoundingly, the spiteful foes had managed to maintain a basic peace.
However, when Cajica had learned that their sacred bone had been secretly stolen,
Indubitably, they blamed their neighboring nemesis, the Snojans.

Snowball, King of Cajica was wickedly incensed,
And he promised to personally pursue without relent.
Shortly thereafter, war had taken its toll.
Thousands had died and everything seemed for null.

But suddenly Snowball’s fighters had an exciting and expedient plan!
They built a wooden cage in which they hid everyone including Bob, John, and Stan.
Given to Snoy as a conciliatory gift, it was curiously carried into the town,
But the knowledgeable and irate Snojans savagely slaughtered all with frowns.

“Whew!” exclaimed Snowball and his pussy party of twenty.
“Let’s all go back to Cajica so we won’t be too tardy.”
But on route, they encountered a plant with soporific flowers and fruits.
No one but Ricky and Roy gave two hoots.

They chewed and swallowed the stretchy drug until they cumbersomely collapsed.
Ricky and Roy simply died because they were unable to rest and relax.
When they awoke, their surroundings were completely new.
Gone were the tundra ice and the sky of blue.
