I reckon Gillian Anderson would make a good Arwen.

But Gillian Anderson's red-haired and short . . . I can't picture her as an elf at all.

I think Gwyneth Paltrow would make an okay Eowyn though.

As Scully she'd red haired. Gillian is actually blonde. Believe me I know I'm a major XFiles fan!

Paltrow would be good.

gillian is too "stocky" ( or at least was) and lacks the elven features to play arwen

I love Jill Hennessy.
I can't think of anyone to play Eowyn. Whoever it would be she would have be able to play a vunerable harda$$, not an easy combo.
Catherine Deneuve is a good suggestion afro-elf.
Paltrow could play Idril in a Silm. movie.

If you combined them into one person then you would have Galadriel.

Jenna Elfman, what a last name and she has Elven features to boot.

Madonna has the arrogant demenor.

And Ru-Paul has the height and is a Queen.

While I certainly didn't dislike Liv, I still believe there could be no better Arwen than Claire Forlani - those are elvish eyes if ever I seen 'em! Famke Jaansen would be a close second...

Don't think you could find a better Galadriel than Blanchett!

Probably should start another thread for this, but oh well: I think it was good that Viggo was available when they needed him - I don't think Stewart Townsend would have pulled it off as well (poor screenplay aside).

Cate Blanchett was terrific as Galadriel, but I could also picture _Saffron Burrows_ in that role (Enigma, Deep Blue Sea)

Arwen - Lucy Lawless, aka Xena, since Arwen's character turned into a poor imitation of her anyway.

Eowyn - *thinks* short, blonde, tough chick..... Sarah Michelle Gellar!

I read somewhere that Sean Bean (Boromir) had initially auditioned for the role of Aragorn, he would have been pretty damn good too!

I don't think Eowyn is short.

No offense, but some of your choices scare me...

Though admittedly, I have none to offer myself right now...

Spooky my friend, very spooky. You have proven the old maxim that "many a truth has been spoken in jest."

I didn't even consider the queen thing. You are also right about another point: Eowyn was tall.

Lucy Lawless? Oh plllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeease!

Afro-elf, your elf-lord wisdom on this topic is evident! *bows* I may find more wisdom in your other words yet...

Did someone actually say Sara Michelle-Geller? Gack.

Joely Richardson could have played Galadriel...maybe.

Eowyn...hmmm...she has to be tough...and played by a good actress...with a track record of that...not Lucy Lawless UGH! But someone who can exude strength.

I'm not very good with actresses but...
What about Natalie Portman? (try to block out negative images of Star Wars for the moment). OK, she's a bit young, but could make a decent elf. Nice elfin face. Expressive eyes. And most importantly, knows how to carry off a quiet and sweet ladylike air without being overdone. I'm thinking: a non warrior princess type Arwen or other elf-maid.

For all this talk about modern fighting women swinging swords and battle axes or vampire stakes and lord knows what else to prove that they aren't pansies (how shallow! who needs to prove any such thing to anybody? sorry. a pet peeve of mine. ), I don't think it's appreciated how hard it is to show an air of strength that is characterized by grace, elegance, and quiet confidence. I know I have a hard time doing it. Only actresses who can do this should be our principal elf-ladies. Anyone know any such actresses?

It's hard for me to think. Hollywood actresses now are groomed to be so glitzy and uninteresting and not very classy for some reason.
I dunno...Audrey Hepburn? But she tends to act a bit on the innocent vulnerable side, so only useful for certain roles.
But hey, as long as Julia Roberts is nowhere in the movie, I won't have a heart attack.
