There's a site:
http://www.suntimes.com/oscars/survey.html#
where you can vote for who wins the Oscars!!! I don't know if it is real and if we do get to pick the winners...BUT...at least it tells us who is likely to win!!! LotR isn't goin that well!!! Please vote!!!
(Sorry if I shouldn't have done this in a separate post or if someone else has done it....feel free to delete it if it is neccessary)

That is poll to see who the public want to win the Oscars, not the actual voting. That is done by the Academy.

Yeah. If the general public selected the Oscars, the film industry would be in a lot of crudulence.

At least Ian McKellan's in the lead for best supporting actor . . . the Academy does tend to be somewhat affected by popularity and the amount of money put into a film (Titanic, anyone?). Hopefully I'm not just deluding myself.

On the other hand, there is also often a backlash against commercial success... Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. and Saving Private Ryan, anyone?

I certainly think that LoTR is getting the shaft in the awards this year, despite the fact that it was so successful at the box office (not that that says much; look how well the 'bubblegum' flicks have been doing). But there are still 2 more films to come, I have hope.
