the DVD: three times to pay

What's yer strategy with the DVD. Apparently we will get a straight special ed in May, a super special ed in November and a 4 DVD set in late November. Will you buy the May version or sweat till November for the extra extra directors cut? How to play this?

I thought the directors cut was about $100m. Will the extra footage be PJ (gees that guys packing extra pounds) counting the loot.

Probably rationalize buying the first one because the others will take so long, rent the first November release once or twice (if possible), then buy the late November one.

And that's assuming I live that long.

hrmmm, now thats tough. Well, I think I'll just have to wait and see. Even tho the late noveber "super special"
edition sounds pretty tempting, I'll have to check out the first DVD to see what it holds it (extra stuff wise) If I like what I see, I'll get it. I mean, I like the movie, everything about it facinates me, but I can always buy a book on it instead. I dont NEED need need oodles of extra footage if its going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Coolismo- you've noticed that too? hrmm someone needs to lay of the seed cakes in favor of rice cakes (Styrafoam bits packed into little round disks YUM! @_@) else there might be a Winnie the Pooh incident on set involving Mr Jackson and a back door to a hobbit hole.

Well I am planning to get the video as soon as it comes out and then I might wait untill three years and get a specail gold plated gift wrapped in a solid siver magical case DVD trilogy case.
Or then again I might die of waiting and end up spending hundereds on cinemas visits, renting DVDs, buying videos and purchase an entire colection of cheep and cheese plastic figures that alow me to act out entire chapters of the book. And I wonder why my lil' sis thinks I'm a freak!
luv

i dont know about UK dvd release's so i have no comment on that, although id have to Buy the first version that comes out, (and buy it on the opening day of sale aswell) just because i cant wait.
then if a secound Fatter edition comes out with extra hour of Directors cut, id probably buy that too.

im gonna be broke.

Oh, and play girl, i want some of the action figures, just to sit on the top of desk'o'draws with my Simpsons/Southpark ones.

o rya could rent it and copy it.. ..errr.. umm at least that what i heard

I'd hate to wait, but isn't extra footage worth it?

im going with the sprained ankle thing, personally

i think pj IS getting alittle bigger, and i don't mean his ego. sheesh, maybe it was the wide lens, or maybe he was bloated that day.. something was different..

hmmm maybe i'll just pay for all three, it would be nice to have a nice, massive LOTR collection someday.....

*laughing evilly* My birthday is in May, so maybe some kindly soul (like my grandparents?) will buy it for me, and then I'll save my money for the November one. Or just wait until all three come out and buy a boxed set, if such a thing exists. Wheee! Of course, a DVD player will have to be on my shopping list somewhere.....

I always wait for mega-editions for DVDs if they're confirmed to arrive, even if it's a year-long wait as was the case with Almost Famous. The super-super-super-duper edition's the one for me. And besides, it's not JUST going to have extra footage.

By the way, what I read was:

- No-frills release, August
- All-frills release, November

Just two releases. And certainly not by May.

The first one is going on the market mostly for rental purposes. Or non-collectors. Or people living on a budget. Or people who buy it by mistake (like how I got the Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 discs separately... THEN found out about the 3-disc box)

Digital Video Disc news from PJ

I snagged this bit from Empire Online:

Quote:
"There's a lot of character scenes, the thirty minutes is sprinkled right the way through from one end to the other, it's integrated into the film," Jackson told Empire Online. "There's a very famous sequence from the book where Galadriel gives the Fellowship gifts, which we didn't have in the theatrical release even though we shot it. There's a lot of really nice moments between characters. We carved the movie right back to keep the pace fairly relentless for the cinema but on a DVD you've got a little more flexibility. You can develop the characters more, there's more information about who they are, what they are and where they come from."
I can't wait!

DVD extras

Jackson should go back and add TOM BOMBADIL to the DVD this would help shift millions of them and cure the disapointments of any unsatisfied fans. More shots of isengard would also be nice.

Apparently there will be two releases, the first will be the theatrical release some time in August. The second with the extra footage/directors cut most likely be released in November. And as far as I know that is for all locations.

Has anyone heard any news about the trailer for TTT?
