1. Whats your Screne Resolution set at.
1280x1024 (though I'd suggest designing one for 800x600 or 1024x768 for the usual viewer. 2. And what is your internet Speed. 56K. Until I get my brothers to pitch in, I'm not paying more.

yeah arathorn, i usually do, do them for 800x600 cos thats standard,
but as its only a handfull of u guys who are going to see www.fotmb.bravepages.com (due for release within 24hours) i thought i might do them for high resolution, so that u dont just have a thin webpage down the side of ur monitor, or centered in the middle. |

aldesign, that content was originally created here, at Entmoot. We do not want it used on a different website without our permission. It's quite frankly rude. We want to keep things like that in our Rivendell section.

My computer is 800 x 600, and my connection is badly messed up 56k(It's pretty broken, it only barely works). We're gonna get DSL soon tho, I hope, anyways.

That story does not belong to you Darth Tater nor to Tolkien trail. did you or any maker of TT write it? imagine it? no? EXACTLY then its not yours. It belongs to the writers and you have no claim over their creative writing. And the WRITERS have given him permission to make that site useing THEIR content.

Thats true, unless the writers agree to some sort of exclusivity contract with entmoot when they submit their work

It wasnt "submitted" it was an impromtu little spoof that got started up and is copyright STRICTLY to the writers because it is INTELECTUAL PROPERTY. Saying it belongs to TT because its writen form took shape here is like saying that because you write something in a McDonalds it belongs to McDonalds WICH MAKES NO SENSE.

Isn't it said somewhere in the agreement you 'sign' (click yes, saying I agree with these statements) say that posting ANYTHING on Entmoot gives them the rights to it? If so, then Tater is right. Dang, if so, my little poem

That generally doesn't stand up in a court of law.
A lot of contracts are written that have no way of being upheld in court.

What does Tolkien Trail need with that story anyway? its just a stupid, rediculous, funny thing that some freinds of mine wrote up to amuse themselves ( and those who would care to read it).
YE CAN TAKE THEIR...uhh....spoons? no not spoons...un..sporks? yeah, sporks...YE CAN TAKE THEIR SPORKS BUT YA CAN NEVER TAKE THEIR STORYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Ummm . . . the link didn't work. What exactly are we talking about? I have a suspicion, but will keep my mouth shut for fear of being wrong.
Feraway is exactly right. I don't care what you say, Tater, or any of the other administrators, or what the stupid contract said. If somebody writes something it's theirs. Period. You can't just take other people's artwork. And if aldesign has permission to post it from the writers, well, end of discussion.

Maybe it's not in the contract, but if it was, and you clicked that yes, you agreed to the contract, then it is theirs. If it's something like that they probably shouldn't/won't care, in my opinion.

It's not theirs. I'm not giving up MY writing just like that. Besides, they don't have plans for it, it's just a control thing or something. Jeez, guys, it's our story, let us do what we want with it!

I think, assuming clicking on a certain "I agree" button holds, the heart of the matter is the difficulty in determining where the content actually originated and whether it was copied verbatim (cut&paste) or whether it is remembered from somewhere, and posted on entmoot or from entmoot to somewhere else.
Quite difficult to enforce but quite interesting a topic nonetheless. IMHO, it would be a lot more fun for everyone concerned to post credit where credit is due on their site and possibly add an "affiliated with" link or something to that effect. But you've gotta talk about the details. How's that for a "can't we all get along" line, heheh. (slaps self silly and goes over to the "You know you like Tolkien too much" thread)

The story behind Entmoot-Gate.
The content originated by the posters. The thread was basically a "what would I do if I met such and such an actor from LOTR". Then different members started writing a satirical short story about kidnapping Elijah Wood and taking him and the Ring of Popculture to the Music Hall of Rivendell where the Messageboardship was formed. The NSync and Backstreet Boys were the Black Riders and Martha Stewart was Sauron. The quest was to take the Ring to her mansion in Miami and destroy the ring in the Microwave of Doom and save the world from her evil house decorating and rid the world of boy bands.
It was an original work by several members of Entmoot collaborating together on an entmoot thread. Intellectually it belongs to them. If you wish to wade through the 500 plus posts - What would you do? heh heh heh . . . you can read it in it's raw form. However the story doesn't actually start until the middle somewhere in the Thread. Aldesign and others had taken the story and seperated it out from the thread and were cleaning it up and putting it into paragraph/story form. In addition, Feraway Hawkbriar had drawn pics of the different members of the Messageboardship. The pics on the page are from Brollum downward. All that Aldesign had up, which has been moved to a different site, are the chapter headings. The actual cleaned up story still needs to be posted. The story is the intellectual property of the people who wrote it. Would the writers please come foward and accept your award for causing a great controversy on Entmoot and for writing a very funny story. To all those new to this - Welcome to Entmoot-Gate.

Of course the work belongs to the writers. However, it did originate on the Tolkien Trail. If the writers want it compiled somewhere we'd be more then happy to let it be submitted to Rivendell. However, it's rude to remove it from the site.
