Today in Middle-Earth

I've gone totally insane and desided to read LOTR so that I'm reading events when they take place according to the calendar. I've started this thread to post what happens in LOTR on every (or at least lotsa) days.

Ok, today in LOTR Bilbo and Frodo Baggins both celebrated their birthdays! This event began the great saga that is The Lord of the Rings

Re: Today in Middle-Earth

I've thought of doing the same, but I tend to read too fast (reading a page or 2 a day isn't the sort of thing I do well, it tends to be a chapter or a book or 2 a day)

In SR 1421, Frodo and Sam meet up with the Last Riding of the Keepers of the Rings in Woody End.

In SR 1482, Sam sets out from Bag End for the last time, beginning his journey to the Havens.

Re: Today in Middle-Earth

October 9, 3018 (TA) Glorfindel leaves Rivendell... Stop the presses!

The following year, on Oct. 9, Gandalf along with Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin, were on the Great East Road somewhere between Rivendell and Bree.

Re: Today in Middle-Earth

Oct. 10, 3018. A wounded Frodo along with his Hobbit companions and Strider, are journeying in the pathless lands south of the Road.

Doing the next few days ahead:

Oct. 11, 3018. Glorfindel drives the Nazgul away from the bridge over Mitheithel, leaving a stone to show the way is safe.

Oct. 13, 3018. Frodo and co. cross the bridge.

==============

I see we missed a rather big day on Oct. 6:
Oct 6, 3018. Attack at Weathertop.
Oct. 6, 3019. Frodo and companions Gandalf, Sam, Merry and Pippin cross the Ford of Bruinen on their way back to the Shire, having left Rivendell the previous day. Frodo feels pain at the site of his injury.
Oct. 6, 3020. frodo is again ill.
Oct. 6, 1 (Fourth Age). Sam returns to Bag End,having seen Frodo take ship at the Grey Havens.

Re: Today in Middle-Earth

I figure that I should say this here. Three days ago, while reading in FotR, I happened on Frodo waking up in Rivendell on October 24. I read it on October 24. Cool.
