The Lord of Carrion

When Eowyn attacks the Witch King she shouts out "Begone Dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion!".

Does this refer to the Witch King or his steed? I thought it was the flying beast, but they're never caleld that anywhere else!

Dwimmerlaik could be a translation of a Rohirric curse. Got to burnish my old english.

I'd say, that it means simply "monster" or "evil creature".
That's at least how it's translated in finnish...
It's propably olde english.

Carrion means: dead and putrefying flesh. I always thought Eowyn was insulting Ol'Witchy.

Dwimmerlaik is a Title for the Witch King, derived from the Old English words Socerer and Corpse, The Rohirric tongue is based on Old English.

Heh! olsonm, you vacant dimwit! Agburanar wasn't asking about carrion! Jeez, you're dummer than Sam in the book!

Look, olsonm I already schooled you on the whole 'Sam' issue. He wasn't dum! Anyway, I knew Agburanar wasn't asking about carrion. I just liked the idea of Eowyn calling Ol' Dwimmy "Dead-Witch, lord of the dead-stinkies

dwimmerlaik is obviously the nazgul/witch king and not his steed. in the index of LOTR under dwimmerlaik it has in brackets "in Rohan, work of necromancy, spectre"

work of necromancy = creation of sauron
spectre = ghost/wraith/phantom

as my english teacher used to tell me, always go back to the source.
