The Christmas thread

So here it is! Only 24 days left to go to Christmas (depending on your timezone) and time to get into the Chritmas spirit again!
What are your favorite songs, why, what lyrics in case of a non standard song, etc.
What do you plan on doing during those days? Work, visit family and friends, relax, watch TV, eat or play games?
What was your greatest Christmas ever? And your worst? Why? Any funny stuff happening at Christmas?
Tell us!

I dont really have any stories to tell right now but I have a funny tradition. Every time I hear the song "Silent Night" I have to go and buy a bag of beef jerky. Same thing applies to two of my friends. It's fun(ny).

Okay, that sounds like you all lost a bet or something.
My grandmothers birthday is on the 24th, so we always go out for dinner with the whole family then and sleep over at my aunts place who lives on a huge farm. This year we will go home after dinner though, because my mother has duty the next day in church. If we get home in time I hope I can go to the night service and sing until I lose my voice.
My favorite song is "Er is een roos ontloken" which is originally German.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Es_ist_ein_Ros_entsprungen
But basically I love singing every Christmas song I know. Around Christmas is such a good atmosphere. As if the world becomes a little softer. I love that time of year.

Hmm, now that you mention it, for me it is too... Okay, my online countdown tree is probably in a different timezone then. Yes I actually have a countdown tree and I am listening to Christmassongs allready despite the controversy.

I found the "Build a Christmas Tree" thread, but Spock had closed it - could one of the mods please open it again?

I'll go PM them.

What do you do in the build a christmas tree thread? I mean, in what sense are you building a tree?

Well, people build their own computers don't they? Why no Christmas trees?

I'm already in the Christmas Spirit: I found ten dollars on the floor of one of the campus buildings.

And that is related to being in the Christmas Spirit how? Did you give it away to the needy?
At church each year with Christmas they organize a free breakfast for those without a home and there are cookies in the tree that we can eat over the service. This year I won't bake, but I did it for a few years. It's fun.

Two hellish weeks ahead, then it's the home straight, with two weeks off over Xmas. Woo-hoo.

Xmas will be spent with my folks with all known bairns around me. I am very fortunate, in that both the auld yins are healthy and able to enjoy spoiling my kids. Nothing makes me happier than seeing them together.

Middle child is 3, so I am looking forward to making it truly magical for him.

The proper knees-up will be at New Year. Hoping to get up to the Highlands with friends for some snow, sleep and serious drinking.

Best Xmas will be THIS YEAR! Worst was when I was getting divorced but we didn't tell the rest of the family so as not to ruin theirs.

22! (But it's 1 AM here, so perhaps it doesn't count.)
I just found out today that there are an awful lot of Disney christmas songs. And I listened to my first new christmas CD... which was awful. It was from a childrens choir, but their singing was really horrible. Normally I feel it's kinda cute or something, but I returned the CD. Perhaps I was not in the right mood to listen to out of tune singing... Fortunately the other one was a lot better. From the Vienna Boys Choir. How do they get that high? I'm a girl and never got that high...

It depends, I guess. At home we have a fake, plastic one because we have a dog and he would hit all the needles of with his tail if the tree was real, but there are many households that have a real tree.
They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Yeah, we've pretty much switched to fake trees over in my neck of the woods too. Pets. It's all because of pets. And siblings. And tree decay. But mostly pets. or siblings. Or tree decay. Or.....*fades out in his ramblings*

Yeah, having to be the one who vacuumcleans all the needles away every morning is pretty annoying. (that's my chore at home, vacuumcleaning and doing the dishes, and come to think of it, I also have to walk the dog and iron and fold my own clothes... I'm being treated like a slave! )
