Or how about Gandalf v.s. Darth Maul? ha ha Take that old man VRRROOORRRRPPP!!! SHHHROOOOMMM!!!! KSHHHHHH!!!!

Emperor probably, Sauron has been too lazy to fight for millennia.

Yeah. You're probably right. Besides, in a way the Emperor is Sauron. After all, evil doesn't go away, it just changes form.

The Emperor lives on hate. It consumes him, and it is his basic solution for everything. Including Jedi. I don't know if Sauron is quite as set on that. Yes, probably in the way of that sort of power, the Emperor would beat Sauron. But I think in overall strength, Sauron is probably stronger than the Emperor. The Emperor doesn't hold sway over the minds of all of his creations in the same way as Sauron. He might be able to do it over individual groups for short periods of time, but Sauron has long time and long range influence. The Emperor couldn't do anything like what was done with the One Ring. Sauron might not have the fighting prowess and the ability to blow someone away with lightning bolts right before him (Although he might be able to, we never were told exactly how he can fight) but he has a lot more long range and time influence. There are all sorts of things he can do with his magic that it would be simply impossible to do through the Force.

Emperor vs Sauron? Palpy

Darth Maul vs Gandalf? Galdalf

Yeah, I forgot Gandalf can come back from the dead. That's pretty hard to beat. But then again, maybe Lucas will surprise us in Episode 2 with the return of Darth Maul.

I would consider a Balrog to be stronger than Darth Maul, and if Gandalf can kill a Balrog, I think he surely would be able to beat the Sith.

Of course! Darth Maul wouldn't last ten minutes against Gandalf, who would simply fry the Sith with a lightning bolt. No fuss, no muss. I was just kidding in my first post.

Door opens, Maul steps out

Gandalf: I'll take care of this.

Maul activates sabre

Glamdring flashes out of it's scabbard, slicing Maul down the middle. Gandalf makes a big flash of light with a spare firework



And, if Sauron wore the Ring, Palpy would be toast.

Since in the LotR, it is implied that should Sauron get the ring, he would instantly be able to take out every good guy left alive in Middle-earth, I think Sauron+Ring would wipe the emperor.
Without it, I think he would too - The emperor may be nasty and evil and filled with the dark side, but Sauron is a Maia, likely the most of the Maia, the original creatures from the dawn of time. He is extremely weakened from what he once was, but he is still on a far larger scale than mortals are.

I'd have to say Sauron. After all, Sauron is a Maia while Palpatine is just a mortal man with great Force ability. If we were to compare the Force with the Ring, then I'd say it's like Sauron-The Ring and then, lets say, Butterbur+The Ring. Sauron would wipe the floor with him.

As fun as that would be, I don't think Sauron is the type to team up with someone he would see as inferior. I think he would try to turn Palpy into his slave if he deemed him useful enough...
